Q:

Why a Talon SS (among other questions…)?

Hi!

I’ve just ordered a Talon airgun! ๐Ÿ˜›

After thinking about which one to pick (Talon, Talon SS or Condor), I’m getting a Talon (not SS).

So, I came to the forum to read what you guys talk about the Talon airgun… but looks like EVERYONE got the SS version!!!!

Why? Is there any obscure reason I’m not aware of?

I chose the Talon because I don’t need the power of the Condor and I don’t mind about a loud gun… I’ll shoot at paper targets at 10 to 30 yards, I won’t use it to hunt (and that’s why I ordered the .177 barrel).
And the best thing… this gun is cheaper than the other 2!

By the way, I want to work out my muscles and ordered an AirForce airpump (yeah, no $$$)… is it too crapy? I cant’ afford a nice Hill pump with moisture filter pack (or without it)…

Thanks!

I ordered my Talon S/S for all the above reasons. Luv it –Lotsa fun–all kinda James Bondy and such. Still.I wound up sticking a 24″ BBL on it for stability reasons. For me it makes it a lot easier when shooting off hand.

Hi!
Been busy working like a dog, but I read carefully all the posts!!!

Thank you so much for the input! I knew the Talon was loud… but not THAT loud. But It won’t be a problem… I hope…

Hey, SteveinLA… thank’s for the directions, but I’ve already read this forum (2 times upside down) and I noticed your post! I tryed to start a new one with the same subject but hoping for a few differente answers (and I’m happy with the answers). I wanted to hear from people that uses ONLY the pump (but apreciate the msgs from everyone) and now I’m more confident about using only the pump (for now). Thank you for your point of view… and be sure that I’ll do post more questions!

Just ordered the gun! Since I’m from Brazil, I guess it will take a little while until I get it…

….I think thats because the SS can do everything the talon will in accuracy and knockdown power on small/med small game out to 50 yds. longer shooting out to 110 and farther even benefits from the condors power. Most Ag hunting seems to be shorter, say to 35yds… so really the question is why not the SS.

You should check out my post, “to pump or not to pump”, (I think that it is under general chat). There were many good answers from different members. Basically, what I got out of it was many people use both. SCUBA tanks are great until they run low. Topping off with a pump helps until you get the tank refilled. Also, pumps are easier to take on the road. It is mostly personal preference, and physical condition…some people with shoulder problems might not want to pump.

I bought a Talon SS for the noise suppression, and it looks really cool to me. Also, an SS can be coverted to a Talon, or even into a Condor. It is a very versatile platform. My SS is stock but I love the power…Crosman Premier hollow points in .22 caliber shooting at 800-850 fps on a full charge, (pest control). At 2200 psi they still zing out there at 750 fps (shooting cans). For what I am doing, that’s plenty.

Good luck, have fun, and ask lots of questions, this forum is the right place for it ๐Ÿ˜€

p.s. you should read the thread for new people under general chat. It answers many common questions.

Do any of you use only a hand pump as air source?

I do and i probably get a hell of a lot less shots per tank than you will on your .177

i dont find it an issue, in fact i find the pump easyer to take with me than it would to lug about scuba tanks

If you are just shooting paper at close range, then you can turn the power way down, have a much quieter gun, and get many, many shots…

When we say loud we mean loud. Like a .22 rimfire loud, ya noise can be a problem. Especially if your shooting in a basement echos of the wall, wifes, hearing protection a must for both reasons.

Thank you all for the info!

So… the main reason is the noise, uh?
Well… I live near an international airport… noise is not the matter… and I have a 10m corridor on the basement I’m using as a shooting gallery.

Sacshooter, a CF tank is on my wish list… ๐Ÿ™„

I got the SS but also purchased the 18″ barrel too…

I wanted to shoot in my living unit and not be heard by the ladies next door…

I think most folks chose the SS because of its ability to be quieter than the other two. With a few simple mobs it can be really quiet and still look like a stock gun.

You hit the nail on the head ๐Ÿ™‚

I got the SS because I wanted something short and quiet (I hunt with it also) so I got the .22

I think you will be happy with the talon in .177. If you like to punch paper you will find big pellet selection in .177 to play with.

If I wasnรขโ‚ฌโ„ขt going to hunt with my talon I would of gotten it in .177 because the pellets cost a lot less. This equals more shooting fun for less cost.

The talon is so easy and fun to shoot; I never thought that I would burn through so many pellets so fast!

I chose to wait and pick up a CF air tank. I live near a big city and I knew that once I had the tank and fill setup to fill one PCP, I would soon acquire other pcp air rifles ๐Ÿ™‚

I think most folks chose the SS because of its ability to be quieter than the other two. With a few simple mods it can be really quiet and still look like a stock gun.
