Q:

VALVE HELP

got an older talon tank, want to remove the valve for polishing. Problem is the valve is excessivlely tight. Anyone know an “easy” way to get the valve loose from the tank? Don’t want to resort to pipe wrench and valve damage.

Thanks

If that doesn’t work, boil your tank in a kettle of water for 15min. or so. I use a steel rod that fits snug in the hole, after heating the valve/tank up, the tank goes in a vice and rod in the valve collar. I try by hand to turn it off, if that doesn’t work a couple of whacks with a hammer will loosen the connection.

Collar over valve is a great idea 8)

The tank I am working on does not have the second hole (only the one for the burst disk).. Same technique, first removing burst disk? putting bolt through “collar” into the threads where the disk would normally be?

Appreciate the advise. Thanks

This is what I do to get off a tank.

First I cut an old airsource cylinder and opened it up inside to fit over the valve collar. I cut it about 2″ wide and drilled a hole that lines up with the hole in the collar. I then threaded a bolt through that hole into the valve body. Now the monkey wrench will fit over the collar you made and the bolt will hold onto the valve as you turn. I wrap the tank in a magazine and open my vise all the way. I then place the magazine wrapped tank all the way down in my vise and close the vise onto the magazine and tighten. I take the monkey wrench and grab hold of the collar and crank it. I use the old school monkey/plumber wrench and apply more pressure on the vise if needed.

The valve will turn loose and nothing will be scarred.

If you can find a metal pipe or fitting that fits over the collar you can make your own valve removal collar.
