Q:

tophat adjustment

I think that I have read just about all I could find about adjusting the tophat. Before I go digging into it the question is: Is the tophat threaded or is the adjustment just a slide with the grubscrew lock? I got a new set of shims yesterday. I have calipers etc. I have become somewhat confused when the forums mention screwing it all the way in and then out 1 1/2 turns.

Another question: Does opening the gap increase the gas flow? I know using a Chrony will help but I am trying to get the chrony to give consistant results without errors. As soon as I can get the lighting sorted out I should be OK.

Thanks

An increased gap does increase flow. But you only want the needed amount and not to much.

Take a look in the quick reference section it may give you more information to see.

Never fails every time I post a question, I find the answer. I did locate a pic on aother site of the new valve which shows the tophat threaded onto the valve stem.
