Q:

Think I finally got a shooter

Although I never owned a s410 before, I could still tell something wasn’t quite right with it. It took way to long to peak, with as many as 15 shots before it found the top of the curve.

I dealt with this for a while, and finally decided to call PAG Steve about it. He said it wasn’t right, so I packed up the action, and sent it to him. A couple of days later he told me he took the valve, put it in his lathe to relieve the area where the valve stem goes in. He said this area was ‘squared off’ which he’s never seen before, so he gave it more of a taper, or cone shape where the stem goes into the valve body.

The next time I called him, he was in the middle of testing the MV on the crony. He wears a headset type phone, so he can talk and work at the same time. He said the gun was running strong as hell, and right out of the gate. I could hear him shoot the gun as he talked to me, I would hear a pop, and he’d say “1000”…. pop…. “1003”…. pop… “1002”

This gun is now breaking 1000fps with 16 gr JSB’s. Of course, the down side is that it’s now a bit of a air hog, I only get about 25 decent shots per fill on full power, when before I could 40, but with a crazy spread. But I can always turn it down.

So I got the action back today, scoped it up and set up some quick targets to check out the accuracy part. (the important part) here’s a quick pic. The first shot is the one way out to the left, clicked way to the right, which put me just to the right of center, and came left a bit for the bulls. Then I shot the 3 red dots at the bottom, 5 shots each at 20 yards with 18gr JSB’s. I’m loving this gun now.

Steve is a good dude, he was a great help in getting it more where it should be.

Holy heck man, if I could do a group like that at that range I’d be showing it off to. Even if it was on a crappy little bent up piece of 2″X2″ cardboard I’d frame it and put it on the wall lol. Great shootin!

Saugus, I have gotten a TON of sub .5″ groups at 50 yards, and a precious few around .25.

FYI, this started shooting this way after I built my custom shroud for it. It always shot the good group, but now its consistent.

Yours looks to be shooting very well, I wouldnt mess with it. 😉

Well I guess you can’t always count on the fishies for a good time, but we can count on our AG’s for a good time eh WOK. Whenever in doubt, break out the back up artillary. Good move. 😉

Hey Saugus I was supposed to get back to you with some chrony numbers from my S410; about 2 months ago 😳 Sorry! Spring got here and I replaced my air rifles with my fly rods. I may take out the S410 this weekend though. Sounds like you are figuring things out pretty well. Those chrony numbers on your rifle are pretty darn impressive even if you do get less shots per fill.

Kenny,

Hot Creek Sucked last week 😡

But we did shoot a bunch of stuff with our airguns at our shooting area.

Oh hell, no need to apologize kgphotos… we all drift away from here from time to time! Yeah I almost think those crony numbers are hard to believe, but I’m just reporting what Steve told me, but he does this stuff all the time, so I not sure I sure doubt him. He even used another crony to compare against. Which means somethings not right with my crony, or I’m using it under the wrong kind of lighting, gotta get that figured out. Hope ya got alot of fish!

When I get comfortable with everything, I’ll be going to the local shooting range to see how I do. Are you saying you get sub 1/4″ groups at 50 yrds? 😯

Those groups look a little large. You sure your happy with that thing?

Just kiddin.

Ive got a few targets at 50 yards like that. Makes you grin like a dog eating shit.
