This is my first post, and have a quest. about my new talonss, that my wife won,t let me have till Christmas morning. So i cannot run any test my self. So,i need your help.
When i get it and fill talon tank ,using commercail 275cu.ft. bulk tank, with starting pressure of 2,400psi not 3k.What will be my shot count and FPS,at max setting.
At what PSI ,does talon valve operate at,max setting. Thanks ,Paulj.

Paulj, you have got to check this out! On this forum under General Chat, on page 2 is my post, To pump, or not to pump. Baciaclly I asked the members which they preferred, a pump or a tank? You have got to see the reply by Martin 777. It is positively brilliant! At the bottom of the picture is a tab you can click on to view the video. I thought that I was asking a stupid question until I saw his answer.
So, Christmas starts technically at 12:00 AM, right? I couldn’t wait. I’d send her on a cruise or something to get rid of her for a while. Your gonna love it. Stock up on pellets and targets. I love soda cans filled 2/3 with water. Hit’em low and they really jump straight up…too cool.
Have fun!
N2 is totally fine. The air we breath is like 70% N2. N2 has no moisture so you are set and lucky. N2 is better due to it being dry.
Paintball has been using N2 for years.
They have to say air only, its a way of protecting them selves, which is understandable ,or people would use oyx.and blow themselves up. So,there has to be a line= compressed air.
Oh, Nitrogen, hmm, better make sure that is OK for the AF rifles, the box says, compressed air only… 😕
I’ve got Nitrogen in my auto tires… 😆
Ok, its not air, its pure N2, i use in my other carbine and it works fine. Same as air but clean. Everyone calls it HPA not HPN.Your advice and comments are all welcome .
The wait is killing me ,but wife said no early Talon,Dec.25 i will get it
Talon SS .22 cal.,bipod, centerpoint 4×16 scope. And today is only the 5th. of Nov. .
First time I fired my SS 12″ .177 cal it was with about 2500psi, works great and you get about 40 shots at 8 (PW setting) before a serious drop in impact begins.
When I went to refill after that session the gauge was at about 1500psi, so you should be able to have some fun with a partial fill.
With 2400psi in the tank you would only need to pump for 2-4 minutes to top it off…
If the tophat is set up well from the factory you should be able to get a few shots off before you HAVE to full again… I backed mine down and gained a few more shots per fill.
Hope I made a little sense, i’m still new too!
And yes ,that would be great if someone out there would fill there tank to 2,400 psi and do a string count. Then we would all know. Thanks
Free HPA is good. Now most of us are using Scuba or Fireman tanks which uses “Clean Breathing Air”. In other words not particle of stuff. I do not know how clean your welding air set up is but maybe a filter of some sort might need to be incorporated to keep the air from fouling your valve. Now I am not a pump guy at all but if you only have to pump from 2400psi to 3000psi that would not be too hard and maybe worth it to get full power.
With CP’s at 3000psi I would get 855fps with a 12″ barrel. At 2400 psi I would expect to be shooting in the 750-800 range.
I don,t want to use a handpump ,because that would get old real fast, scuba tank is out because no scuba shops close, and being a welder i have free access to all the HPA that i need.My talonss will be used for hunting treerats and crows at 40 yds max more realisted would be average 25 yds. or less.

I think some guys refil as low as 1500 psi…..
It will work, but like you and others have said, you’ll just have less shots than the guys who fill to 3000 psi.
If you dont mind dropping the power level a bit below the 26fpe (on average) that the SS gets on full power then you’ll have plenty of shots.
How far are you going to be shooting it? The shorter the distance the more effectice shot’s you’ll get as you wont notice the drop in velocity as much.
Maybe someone could fill theirs to 2400 psi and post a string to give a ballpark figure. I cant because my guns in peices.
The reason for asking is ,i have access to275 cu.ft. air but they are filled max. to 2400 psi.I have adapters special hose and regulator on tank to fill Talon tank to 2,400 psi. I dont care about alot of shots per fill but would be very happy with 20 power shots at max. setting. I know that after each fill tank pressure also drops. But,275 cu. ft. tank,i should get many refills before getting tank exchanged.
Most people here probaly fill their tanks to 2,800 to 3,000 psi, but at some point they must shoot at 2,400 psi, till they refill.
Just tring to fig. if i can get about 20 power shots. Thanks to all who answered.
Paul,
I was waiting to see if anyone answered you due to I have never filled at 2400psi. I usually refill around 2000psi. Your velocity will depend on your pellet but it will definitely work. Your shots will not be at their top velocity but you will get several shot before you refill. Shoot some Crosman Premieres and that will give you higher velocity then if you were using Kodiaks.
And what pressure the valve works at varies do to the decreasing pressure as you shoot.
Double check your fill set up and make sure you have any and all adapters needed to hook it up so you can shoot on xmas.
Hi Paul,
If I understand you correctly, you can only fill our tank to a max of 2,400psi, and probably are worrried that it wont work on christmas morning.
Dont worry, it will work fine, just turn the power wheel down 2-4, and you should be able to get loads 60+ medium\low power shots per fill.
Ps, I am not a talon expert, only have experience with condors, but I hope it helps,
Eamo
Paul,
I’ve never filled my tank to 2400psi, and the reason no one else has answered your questions is probably because they have not used their guns in the way you describe either.
Not sure I follow you, or what your trying to find out here. Its more useful to think of the valve as letting out a specific amount of air (Volume), as opposed to a pressure…. Besides it being impossible for me to measure the pressure of the air being let out of the valve, it wouldnt help much as it doesnt tell you how much air, was let out so you wouldnt know if the valve was more or less efficient after adjusting and you wouldnt be able to get a rough idea of shot count.
Shot count would be discovered by shooting the gun rather than taking measurements… easier and cheaper.
Your welcome….. 🙄
Help here is overwhelming,thanks,Paulj.

i can tell you that at 2500 psi i can get around 20 full power shots in the 900 fps range but i have a 24″ barrel…My father has an 18″ and he shoots in the 800’s for about 30 shots…dialed down in the 600-700’s you should get plenty….
