Gettng Micro performance from other valves…I made some threaded inserts a while ago but no one ever tested them to my knowledge. I used Stainless set screws and drilled different size holes in them and you could switch out for different powers on the one piece valves. I think Leupy and someone else had made them before me as I got the idea from somewhere… Leupy also made one that also had a set screw way up in the stem that did the metering right at the ports. By turning the set screw it covered them up some and was reported to be very accurate and consistant. I think the valve was actually made for a .177 Field Target project?
There were kind of 2 benefits from the jet/setscrew design in that it metered the air and also helped close the valve very quickly since the set screw acts like a parachute. Opening and closing the valve as quick as is necessary to get the desired performance increases the air use efficiency.
I’m experimenting with shims behind the tophat now and it looks promising as well as Leel’s info on him using a rubber washer for a shim to limit the valve travel he is getting VERY consistant low power shooting from his Talon valve. Micro shot count is easily changed out to higher power with only the removal of a shim.

The only difference with the Micro is an etremely restrictive valve spring retaining screw. The airflow port looks only a couple thousanths big.
Next one I have apart, I will get a pic of it.
So Tony if someone wanted to they could drill out the valve spring retainer, in a standard tank, and then thread it and insert a bolt with differing diameter airflow ports?
I guess what I am trying to say is you could modify a standard tank to be a micro and then back to standard. Is that correct?

Thanks, I did some looking around and all I could find was that all the tanks were the same size for the AirForce line…

The way I understand it is that the valve is different…more shots, less power.
What is the typical tank size for the Talon…. 0.5L?
How is the micro different?
