Q:

Talon on HPA?

Just bought a Talon .22 Co2 and ordered a HPA 50ci worr-gas tank for it to covert it to regulated HPA. The current reg runs 850 psi but I will mod it for 1100psi (washer mod). I just did this mod on my RWS 850 Airmag with a 13ci tank and it shoots awesome (See link). Is there anyone running a Talon on HPA? If so what do you think of it? I searched the threads and found some input but would like to hear from someone who has done this. Thanks guys and great forum. I agree that will be awesome if someone can make a in tank regulator. Then you can have the best of all worlds. Thanks for the link and the info. Eric

As I understand it the Talon is an unregulated HPA tank. I believe it works off the the premise that the when the valve is opened it lets in a certain amount of air based on how long it stays open and the amount it is opened. While this works and works well. I am looking for a system that will be exact and repeatable from shot to shot at different tank pressures. If you set up 4500psi tank a regulated down to say 1100 psi . Every shot you get will be at that pressure. In an unregulated system your pressure has more variables. IE tank pressure and the amount the valve is opened. I am far from being and expert on the subject but it seems that a regulated 4500psi or 3000psi system should provide more consistant shots over a longer duration. I have converted Co2 guns to regulated HPA with great results. Just my thoughts. I was hoping to hear of someone who has done this with a talon for some real insight. Thanks Eric

Several people here have done this with the CF paintball tanks. Sirjeo posted a thread not to long ago about using his 1100psi output CF Tank. We even have members making regulators built into the tank and running at much higher pressure then what the paintball tanks deliver. So it is not new and has been done many times.

If you shoot over a chrony then you will be happy with the numbers from a regulator, but if you shoot by monitoring the POI you will see you can get about 40 shots before it changes significantly with out one. But with the current output pressure from these PB tanks you can not achieve the fps we are getting without a regulator.

A member of ours is working on a regulator you can use your AF tank with and that will be awesome.

When we want the Talon or Condor to shoot at low velocities or just plink some will use the CO2. But most of us our accuracy and power junkies. The low pressure HPA tanks just dont give the power we are looking for. With my Talon and a 16″ barrel I am punching Priemeres out at 955fps and Kodiak at 855fps in .22. I can then turn down the power wheel and shoot CPs at 600fps for 70-80 shots.

Yep, the fatory set-up is designed to operate on up to 3000Psi of HPA! So your just backing up!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, airforce guns come with hpa from the factory. I don’t really understand why you wouldn’t just buy the airforce hpa tank. You would get so much more power, and you could adjust your tophat/power wheel to get lots of shots.

HI Eric,
I noticed that you posted this several days ago, but nobody has commented on it yet. Personally I don’t understand what it is that you are trying to do. You see the AF guns were designed to operate on HPA. The CO2 conversion is, as I understand it, an afterthought. What confuses me is why anyone would want to use anything but the factory 500 cc tank for HPA? There are valve modifications that increase power and efficiency. Maybe I am missing something. If so please feelfree to educate me.
