Q:

Taking the next step (spinger to a PCP), need suggestions…

Hello, I’m a noob at this forum, but not to air rifles. I’ve been into adult air rifles for almost 3 years now. I have owned about 7 different air rifles (all spring piston), and In my opinion, the two most powerful spring piston air rifles on the planet in there respective calibers. I now own 4, but the last gun, I’m thinking about returning to fund my next big PCP purchase. I have the following guns:

1. Gamo Hunter 1250 (22 caliber): This gun rips apart every other spring gun in this catagory, including RWS 350, 460, and even the Webley Patriot. This gun consistently throws pellets out at 30-31 FPE, and maxes out at 33 foot pounds, and is a freaking beast. It throws the light 14.0 gr. Daisy pointed pellets out at an average of 1004 F.P.S., yes, that’s over 1000 fps for a 22 cal springer!!!!

2. RWS 350 Magnum (177 caliber): This gun ranges from about 20-21 foot lbs, to over 23 FPE. It will throw out PBA’s at 1344 fps, and most 8.x gr. pellets at around 1100 fps, with the heavy Crossman 10.5 gr. at around 942 fps. This gun is also a beast in .177.

3. Xisco BAM B-30 (My .22 workhorse gun): Decent gun, quite accurate for Chinese, and shoots around 830 fps with CP’s and around 20-21 FPE, maxing out at 22 FPE. This is really the gun I do most of my squirel hunting with around the house.

4. Beeman Model 1100 (.177 workhorse-I’m thinking about returning to get my next gun): 16-17 FPE, around 1040 fps with light 7.2 gr. Daisy pellets with max energy around 17-18 FPE.

What I’m looking for is taking the plunge. I live in an urban area deep in the city limits close to the center of town, so high powered air rifles are really starting to appeal to me more and more. I’m looking at getting the absolute most powerful PCP rifle in 22 caliber. From my research, I can see that there are three guns that are supreme. I’m trying to figure out which one is the most powerful, and which one is the “best.” Then from there I can make my final pick. These are the guns:

1. Air Force Condor
2. Career 707 III
3. Evanix AR6
4. Sumatra 2500

Can anyone give me some real data, or links to comprehensive tests on ALL three guns? Anyone own all four? Right now I’m leaning towards the Condor, but would like as much information as possible as this is a big purchase, and I want the best for the money. I really don’t want to mod the gun to make it right as I heard the Condor takes a lot of modding to get it to really shoot like it should. Which one is the most powerful, accurate, and overall “best” right out of the box? If the Condor is not the “best,” would it be worth it to spend 300+ bucks to make it better?

Thanks for any input!!!!!

Take the AR6 off the list few shots and eratic numbers. all down hill after the first and fast. i think like 6-8 shots on full power with a 50fps shot spread from shot to shot, fucgly 🙁

The two koreans are good guns by most accounts fewer shots i’d think, louder, harder to shroud, and like banging a ugly women. They just look like an old west gun to me, fucgly 🙂 .

Condor is powerful, as near as the other two, more in .25, easy to mod/fine tune. Shroud for dust collection 😉 is easy enough. Either .22 or .25 is fine with this rig. Hanging accessories is a dream as the top and bottom has rails for such items. All the info for the rig is here on this site, shot strings, tunes, modded items. She looks dam good too.

What are you lokimg for in a AG? What is the distance your going to be shooting from??? What are you shooting. You can go any route with this gun 12″ barrel less power, but easily quieted. You’d be shooting about 150fps less then a 24″ barrel we’d call it a CondorSS. If you wanted all the gun has to offer i’d go .25 right off the bat, 24″ barrel. If your poweer requirements are less then this a TalonSS with modded valve will yield with 21g kodiaks 850fps for a 20shot avg, obviously there is more shots in the tank the avg. would just drop some more, maybe 830-820fps for 30shots. Depends on whatyou want from the gun do you need alll that power or want it? 😉

Flyboy; You asked:

“So let’s say I wanted to get a “custom” 25 caliber condor with all the mods. How much would that rifle run me??? I guess I can compare it to the other two that way. There is also a Korean 25 caliber that packs a good punch too.”

AirHog has a .25 cal Condor with a moderator that they custom build and test. I purchased a .22 cal Condor with their moderator in the spring of 2006 and had it shipped to me in Iraq. I’ve been shooting that gun from the day I took it out of packing and I can say from experience that it has perform flawlessly in the worst of conditions. I couldn’t be happier with what I purchased from AirHog. They test and fix any problems found before they ship.

Because of the perfromance of my original purchase from AirHog I now own a TalonSS and a .25 cal Talon/Condor hybrid. My springers are now relegated to the gun safe. AKULA

A straight out of the box Condor is nothing to sneeze at, and with a shroud (the only mod. mine has) is quieter than the aforesaid sneeze. I love mine, I came from springers, and it is way easier to shoot accurately.

In the land of the PCPs, one in where an airgunner can go to to have almost all on his air rifle, the Condor is king. And like what others have already said, just like myself, we bullshit you not. Especially with the newer Condors with updated valves, you should be good to go out of the box. They are very accurate, have the power that will kick alot of air rifles’ asses – and if not, it can easily be done to do so – and it can take in a whole lot of accessories you can think of putting on it. More importantly, the design of the rifle is so simple that it is a breeze to work with or modify. Yes, the Condor will scream and do so much more. Good luck in your purchase.

Yeah, that’s what I like about the Condor, is all the possibilites with it, ESPECIALLY due to the fact I can maybe even get it in 25 caliber which is really cool.

So let’s say I wanted to get a “custom” 25 caliber condor with all the mods. How much would that rifle run me??? I guess I can compare it to the other two that way. There is also a Korean 25 caliber that packs a good punch too.

Hey FBZ, glad u r here, great place.

I assume you want both power and accuracy. Get a Condor. Straight from the box I had groupings of 3/4″ at 50 yards @55 fpe. Pretty darn good.
Of course you can get more with a $200 or so full tune.
AF guns are probably the most accessory-friendly out there. You can mount anything anywhere.
Good luck with your pick.

FBZ….. You don’t have to do anything to a bone stock .22 Condor performance wise. They kick some serious ass right out of the box. People modify them to suit themselves, myself included. Check out my post in hunting ” to the newbies”. My bone stock .22 is one mean ass pellet rifle. No springer could ever match its formidable power, and ease of use. I kid you not.

Dirty Harry

Welcome to the forum. Of course, here, you will find most of us prefer the Condor.

A quick rundown of the guns based on what I know and some on what I’ve read.

Condor…. infinitely moddable, tactical look. Ability to change configurations on a whim. Near unlimited power with mods.

Career/Sumatra…. good power.. all but the carbines seem a little unwieldy to me though. Lots of shots on low power. If you like the pseudo-western look… go for it.

AR6… not a lot of shots. I’ve not met many folks who like this gun.
