Q:

stock talon ss- any simple ways to increase spring preload?

Hi all,

I have a stock talon ss that uses the co2 adapter with HPA. I know I need a heavier hammer and/or more spring preload to get the valve to open at a 2800 psi fill. Any quick diy tips on how to make a heavier hammer ? or use a stronger spring? and advice would be appreciated! 😛

Go to a hardware store and buy a 3/4 in brass pipe nipple…a 6″ should suffice..cut off the threads. I have found that the first 1/10 of inch behind the thread is a little large to fit ( i believe it is from the threading process) . it is easily snaded down with plumbers clothe or if you have acces to a lathe you can fix it right up…be sure to bevel theleading edge to meet the sear and polish her up to glide down the tube. scale can be a great help but it you go about a 1/4″ longer than stock you will increase your preload and hammer weight…

Your best bet is Ace or the like smaller hardware stores which have a good selection of hard to find type hardware. Best place to start for baffles and spacers for any LDC design as well. Good luck, your welcome, glad i could help.

Thanks for the info that is just what I needed.

For added hammer weight Bronze flanged bushings will work, steel spacers will work, just make sure you have the OD of the barrel 18″ or 24″= 16mm. So any parts you buy have to have an ID to accomodate the barrel and still be 1″ OD. 1″ Urethane bushings in front of the spring will add pre load they come in different thicknesses 1/2″, 3/4″ you don’t need much for preload.

Thanks Adam,

Yes, if I can pick up something at Lowes or make it I would. Maybe I will take out the hammer and cut some metal tubing to match the hammer diameter. does anyone have dimensions on the condor weight?

I am not an expert with the condors but some have been able to go to the hardware store and pick up a compatible part for a hammer weight. Maybe somebody can chime in and lend a hand.

I plan to order one but I have not gotten around to it. I sure wish there was a local store that had all the parts I needed for my talon; I hate waiting on things I order 😆

Have you thought about using a Condor weight in your gun?
