Q:

Sandblasting before anodization…

Hello,

I have mentioned many times that I like to sandblast the aluminium surface before anodization. I prefer the “gun-matte” more than shiny surface and IMHO it fits the overall gun look better. Here’s finally one example of sandblasted and anodized result. The small part is just anodized with plain turned surface. LDC has been blasted with very fine grain metal particles to break the surface. The web-picture does not represent the actual surface very accurately but you should get the idea.

That is a kick ass display of how surface prep effects anodizing a part! nice job!!!

Have you tried any other media like sand or ???? is the stuff you use easy to get? cheap? re-usable?

Thanks for sharing this VERY good info!!!

Jim.

😳

I’m red till the ears whe say out here.

My homebuilt gun was glasspearl blaste before anodising! Bit of a shortcut for me becouse I hate polishing and this covers up most dings 😳

I admired your work on that too. I tried also glasspearls but IMHO the surface was too smooth after that. It’s still too smooth with steel grains since I would like to have little more raugh surface. Now it’s a fingerprint magnet. And btw, you are SO right about coverup ability with blasting 😀

You have done so gigantic work on that stealth that it’s impossible for me to even start commenting it. I simply envy your skills. Design. Machining. Finishing. Everything is just fantastic.

But I like the mathe finish!

Yeah. I noticed your impressive camo coating 😀
Would love to hunt too but here in Finland you cannot legally shoot ANY animal with airguns – no matter how powerfull. Good thing is that we don’t have any regulations for airguns yet. Not for power and not for silencer.

Nice to see the difference. I prefer the blasted look because I’m not keen on shiny things on guns because I hunt with them, but some guys like shiny… looks like blued steel kinda.
