Q:

Regulator Volume ?

Hi All
I try to avoid maths but this one i cant get away with so, anyone know of a calculation for the reg volume / volume per shot , im trying to come up with info for the spacer in my cylinder between the reg and valve. Mcmike used 11cm3 in his defunked reg but others ive seen at 22cm3 , its all very confusing.

To calculate the forces:
Force = pressure x area
If you use metric dimensions it’s easier since you can move from Pascal to Newton very easily. Here’s shortcut for calculating with bars.

For example 12mm diameter in regulator piston.
P=regulated pressure (say 100bar)
A=12mm -> 6^2*3.14 = 113mm2
F = 100 x 113 / 10 => 1130N

If the otherside of piston is 6mm the force is:
F= (3^2*3.14) * (100) / 10 => 196N

Total force is 1130-196 = 935N

So i should be able to come up with a figure ! 😯
The slingshot hammer looks like an esay solution but ive read good and bad about it. One thing i like is that it stops the hammer bouncing on the valve so you deliver the correct volume of air.
Time to dust off that scientific calculator i once used 😯

I agree with Marc. I’m also trying to use less force to open the valve camera and reduce the valve camera pressure so I may get more shots.
Also I’m going to machine a hammer like the one in Daystate catalogue, they call it “Slingshot hammer” kind of an inertial hammer, but nonetheless a very good idea!
I’ve been updating my designs since I saw the USFT works at 70bar!

My thinking on this is first find the shot to shot volume in your sweet spot. Say that is from 130-100bar (valve prepared for reg use). Then the volume of the 2nd chamber should be great enough to not let the pressure sink below 100 bar.
So say you standard tank is 200cc and you get 20 shot’s between the 130 and 100 bars.That’s 30*.2/20= 0.3ltr’s per shot unregged. Say your reg is 120 bars. Now 0.3=Volume*120-Volume*100–>Volume*(120-100)=0.3
So The 2nd chamber volume should at least be 0.3/20=0.015ltrs eg 15cc.
More is better but this should suffice. The trick I think in this is set-up is to get the valve set up to where the sweetspot lies at far lower pressure than normal!
