Q:

Question about the tri-rail accessory for scope

Just waiting on my Talon SS to arrive and was looking on the AirForce website at accessories and got to wandering about something. I have shot my brothers SS and he has his scope mounted on high rings, but still it seems that the scope is way low to get your face down to level with it.

I see they offer a tri-rail accessory which also raises the scope mounting platform. Don’t know how to say what I see in my brain right now, but wouldn’t raising the scope up to that high an elevation above the barrel be a bad thing for determining your trajectory through the scope at different yardages?

Yeah you did kinda say that…. Just re read your post, sorry.

I used to just use a laser and have it cross the line of sight through scope at around 20 yards and use the distance the laser appeared above or below the cross hairs to figure out hold over, works pretty well so long as you use chairgun and/or shoot at a few distances to get a feel for it.

YN, what you said is more inline with what I had in my mind. I suppose the simple answer for the nearer targets might be to use a laser for within say 20 yds or so.

High scopes are better for long range shooting

The pellet moves in an arc…. goes up and then is flat for a brief moment and then moves down again.

The higher the scope mount the more of the downward arc stays within a small deviation of the point of aim….

On the flip side is that its harder to figure out shorter shots. You could be a few yards off your guess and miss by an inch….

Now it actually gives you a better head position and helps in long range shooting.

Take a look at chair gun and change the scope height and you can see how it changes.

Here is a little write up on it
