Q:

Poor Man’s Fill

My black 80 cu ft aluminum scuba tank was down to 2400 psi in my cold garage. So, I put it out in the sunshine for several hours and it came up to 2850psi. Thanks Apollo!

My tank is black.

Just wondering, is your tank a real dark color or just aluminum?

Makes a big difference in what the air see as temp. inside the bottle.

Very good Roy! That’s very close. My garage has been in the high 30’s, low 40’s in the morning. It was a 75 to 80 degree day here in L.A.. The tank sat there in the sunshine for roughly two and half to three hours.

That sounds interesting, might you be able to give me the beginning tank temperature and the ending tank temp?

Does not mater if it’s F. or C. thanks.

Just for funnies I ran some (what if) numbers.

80 cf tank, dry air contents, 40 deg. F = 2,400 psi.

80 cf tank, dry air contents, 100 deg. F = 2,685 psi.

Just for the record I used the Combined Gas Law for those calculations.

Thanks

lol. It still has the same amount of air.
