Q:

==Playing With High Pressure ==

Bought a 4500 PSI, 68 cubic inch, paintball tank — carbon fiber.
Put a home built valve on it.
Pumped it up to 3600 psi (I have my own compressor).
Screwed the tank on my home built 9 MM gun (17 inch barrel).
Shot it over the crony.
Got 1000 Feet per second with a 77 grain Eun Jin pellet.
171 Foot Pounds Energy!

It was getting 150 FPE at 3200 PSI with a standard tank.

I can still go up in pressure, as long as the valve keeps opening.
Got plenty of velocity, So I can increase the projectile weight to get more power.

One of you guys (Cygnus X ) with the .457 guns might improve your FPE with this trick????

i have tried to increase pressure…tried it at 3500 psi …and got 604 fpe…also tried an adaptor i made to feed the gun directly from scuba to see how it would do with 3800…which was okslightly less than 600 fpe…4000 psi and it couldnt crack the valve for sure as power was down into the 500’s….and last try at 4200 psi, power was in the 300’s FPE

of course with 4500 psi on tap, on could make a much smaller valve seat, as the pressure would offset it

good job on the rifle…hows that cheek weld ?

SAVAGESAM:
It was posted on Ebay. It was in a firehouse about 60 miles south of me. They used it to pump up their survival breathing tanks to 2100 PSI, so it never worked vary hard (the compressor is rated to 5000 PSI). I got the thing for $600 bucks. It is a big industrial type model, it weighs about 500 pounds.

I gots to know!!! How did you score that compressor? How much was it?

The .50 career dragon has a light recoil but is easy to shoot. Here’s 2 shots I made from 100 yards.

I am interested in a 9mm kit for my condor someday. Are the barrel difficult to get? I live in Canada.

Mark, I had my first Delrin BigBore breech blow an oring at the sear cutout. But the breech held fine. Had to make a new one anyways so made the ally one with a full length handle.

great stuff , nice speeds . i was just thinking the other day you have not posted much on the gun .
how does the fit of the euijins compair to the .35 balls ,?? do the balls have any looseness . been planing on getting a 5lbs box , worried they suck .

Jez, get the 000 buckshot from Ballistic Products Inc. They are the true 0.360″ diameter that works awesome in 9mm. The other thing I like are the 125 grain Speer swaged lead ,bullets very accurate.

Eun Jins are a tight push. So are the .35 balls.
I dont like the 35 balls. I recovered some after they were shot, and the impression of the rifleing was very narrow.
Both the Eun Jins and the balls have HUGE expansion when they hit.
They are both very soft. I am shooting into a 2 inch thick, treated board (very dense wood). Expansion is up to double the origional diameter.
Have not been able to evaluate Accuracy yet, but i’ll bet the eun jins do better.

Your right Alluminum would be much better.
Did some calculations on the delrin breach, and , if I remember right, was ok for 2000 or 3000 PsI of actual breach pressure. The calculations did not take account for the notch in the bottom of the breach. When I test fired it for the first few times, I rolled the gun over so if the breach let go, I would be safe. — still doesnt assure it is safe —

Its just the wife and I, And she wont come anywhere near while Iam fireing the gun, so I cant get a video.
The 9 MM Eun Jins come from Pyramid Air. Also been shooting Speer .350 round balls.
I need to purchase some of the 100 grain bullets from Pyramid.
Have cast some 158 grain soft lead bullets (for a 38 special powder burner) and they worked well on 3000 PSI ,produced 180 FPE. Kinda afraid to use them on 4500 PSI. The breach is a weak point, it may fail if I get too much back pressure from a heavy bullet. Breach is made of plastic.

Never shot a .50 before, whats it like? A lotta recoil?

Mark

Mark, now that scares me!
Gotta get rid of that plastic breech! I use ally and am very glad I switched
Good looking rig that big bottle and all!
Take care
Walter..

BTW just use the top right corner ‘Quote’ to copy in a box the post you are replying to.

I weighed the tank empty at about 2.5 pounds, filled it up and it weighs about 3/4 pounds heavier — it holds 3/4 pounds of air! One doesnt normaly consider that air weighs anything.

Mark

If I remember right, air is .08 lbs. per cubic foot

Rusty

have you ever shot a .50 cal career Dragon?

where do you buy your 9mm ammo?

Someone told me that they use SSG shotgun reloader ammo. I think it’s buck9 shots.

blue jay:

Its VERY loud !! Gotta wear ear protection. The Wife tolerates it, if I warn her ahead of time (I been test fireing it in the basement).
Too cold to shoot outside! Got 10 inches of snow last nite.
Built this thing as a curiosity mostly. Sighting is not too practical with the tank in the way. Thinking about building an “offset” adaptor to drop the tank down a few inches. I have been shooting it like a pistol to make the sights work.

THe hell with waiting for spring….:x 😡

let us know what that thing can do, please!

I was just looking for a box of 9mm to see what they are and do but cant find any. if memory serves me, I think they move around 950 or 980, can’t even give a guess at the weight but I think you’re right there with the powder burners 8)

what dose that beast sound like, and are you going to build a big dust collector?
