Q:

Pellet size question

I have some H&N Baracuda 5.51 pellets and when I insert them into the breech you can just slightly feel the pellet head engage the rifling. I have some H&N field trpphys that are 5.53 and they are quite hard to insert. Acutally gets sore on the thumb after awhile.
Even though the 5.51.s aren’t engaging as deep into the rifling do you think spin and accuracy would be the same as the 5.53’s ?

What size do you perfer ?

Airforce Rifles/Pistols

only YOUR gun can answer that. Each one I have had has its own preference. Time to set up some targets and do a comparison shoot. U may even find both equally accurate but requiring different power settings.

If you have a velocity goal shoot multiple pellets at the same velocity and see which is most accurate

If you want to shoot a specific pellet, shoot multiple velocities until you find out where it shoots the most accurately and live with it.

The experimenting is a big part of the fun in this game we call airgunning.

Just because Kodiacs are most accurate for me and JSBs are more accurate for somesone else doesn’t mean your gun will be at its best with either one; or my gun might like 2600 psi fill at 800 fps and yours 2800 psi at 950 fps. Lots of variables and every gun is different. You can generalize results and use them for starting points though. JSB, CPs, and Kodiac are proven performers; as are predators and beeman CMs although with shorter range limitations before loosing accuracy.
