Q:

new Talon SS … what mods should I do first?

scored a new old stock Talon SS # 00698, unfired in original box.

needing help in determining which mods to do first…

shoots and holds air fine. but will not shoot consistent groups at lower than 790 fps.

several shots will chrony at 680 fps, then drops to 430 fps. jumps all over at lower speeds. dial power up, chrony at 815 fps, consistent within 10 fps or less.

called Talon up about this issue, they claimed this is normal. depends upon individual gun. some go lower fine, other won’t.

not after highest power, but would much rather shoot at lower power, quietest possible.

over penetration is a real concern shooting in the city. goal is 600-650 fps range, whisper quiet..

I have been doing extensive testing in this power range and some experimentation in making it quiet. Right now I’ve got 5 custom baffles stacked with a spring in the front and rear of the stack but I have a much more effective setup I’ll post later this weekend. Basically it is a shower rod from WalMart that just slips in the frame, some 1″ felt chair leg protectors with a hole melted in the middle of them and some spacers in there. It is super quiet. You’ll need to do some for of hammer slap mod also as it makes a lot of noise once the bark is taken off the muzzle.

More later….Jim.
