New project
Just bought me a BSA Airsporter RB2 circa 1990s in a bit of a state.
The stock was painted with red paint to try and make it look like a darker wood grain effect but in all fairness looked shit!
The bore has been left full of crud and a few years of neglect and the blueing is really bad though not much in the way of rust!
On the day I collected it I ran a bore cleaning kit through for about 30 mins with copious amounts of light oil and cleaned the bore to a nice shiney finish and upon inspection there is NO pitting just a nice clean set of landz so thats a bonus!!
The woodwork was stripped back to the good wood underneath and lightly keyed down with fine grade paper to reveal a rather pale almost white stock! This has had a few coats of stain now and looks a shed load better and all I need to complete is a few coats of tru oil.
Lastly will be the Blueing and a little cosmetic work on the rotary breech. I founf a company here selling the US blueing kit called WONDER BLUE and man that stuff looks amazing so gotta get me some but it’s £35 so will get some in the next few weeks.
I had a quick test fire of the gun when I cleaned out the bore and was suprised it’s not bad at all it’s real smooth to cock and to shoot looking closer it’s had a bit of time spent on it to tune it in the past and it still shows even after the bad treatment it’s had!
The gun cost me a princely sum of £15 and once completed should easily reach £150 onward for a few days work in all.
The plan is to get the Airsporter finished and sell the BSA Supersort carbine I have as I really like the airsporter as this was one of the first guns I owned as a Kid though granted not the RB2 model as this never came out till about 1991
Once I am finished with it I will post a few piccies of the complete project but for now it’s on hold as I have a few other things on my plate at present having just finished restoring an old spanish 410 guage shotgun and a Baikal O/U Shotgun
The Supersport cleaned up rather nice and i decided not to bother restoring as it works fine as it is and I also have a old Side by side shotgun to find a stock for and restore and this is taking the time I should be spending on the airsporter but instead the airsporter is just getting the inbetween time spent on it though I hope to have it finished by the end of next month
