Ok, I just wondered what you had. Looking forward to see how your project proceeds…
1 in 26″ twist, that’s very interesting to me. I have watched several of the videos of these Impacts in .30 shooting and they were really accurate and at great distance, with a cross wind, very predictive and repeatable!
I had wondered what twist rate they used for the .30 … It’s freakin’ impressive regardless what it is, I know that. They used pellets and slugs too!
Way cool, thanks for the shared info too, I have been known to be quite a pita with questions on things and certain times have more than tested Guy’s patients, which is never what I ever intended!!!March 17, 2021 at 9:15 am #536432
No joy on the freezer experiment. Barrel’s still too big for the CF sleeve. I’ll have to go with my original plan, which is to carefully sand the I.D. to clear the liner… No biggie. Just tedious.
Other’s in the community designed the 1-26 twist rate for .30 many years ago. Made by TJ’s, out in KY. Works quite well for both pellets and slugs. FX just copied the twist rate is all. Their first twist rates when the Impact first came out weren’t quite there, and accuracy really started to suffer once people started shooting the heavier slugs. So they copied the twist rate that so many of us have had such great success with. I would have preferred to use a TJ liner, but I haven’t been able to get a hold of him. The FX liner was available, so I went that route. I just want to get the gun up and running, so I can get to tuning and such.March 17, 2021 at 12:51 pm #536433
You know there used to be a lot more activity on this website but I think everybody’s moved on at least most of the time frame anyway.
I remember seeing the impact when it first came out and was real interested in it but then the accuracy wasn’t there.
I can only imagine how ready you are to have this thing up and going it’s that would be killing me.
Good luck with all this and look forward to seeing and hearing about it all…March 30, 2021 at 9:11 pm #536469
Small update. Barrel is done:
The outer barrel shroud is just on there for mock up. I’m going to extend the outer shroud, I’m just waiting on some aluminum to make the parts to extend it. After paint, it’ll look factory. I still need to get a LDC for it too. Soon I’ll be disassembling the gun again, so I can install all the other goodies. I’ll be done with this build soon. I’ve also got a new FX chronograph coming too… I can’t wait to get to tuning!March 31, 2021 at 7:41 am #536470
Now don’t that carbon fiber just look badass or what!
I have a carbon fiber high tension barrel in a 22 magnum powder burner and the thing about it surprised me was just how durable that carbon fiber is you know, it doesn’t get a ding, it doesn’t get frayed or scratched, it just looks awesome…
It’s a perfect material for building air rifle barrels and components as you are here, I mean this rifle your building here is a serious animal!!!
One thing I figure, you got some serious patience hanging on to everything, waiting to start shooting this build up.April 1, 2021 at 7:38 pm #536472
Mr. Clague has graciously agreed to build me a custom barrel shroud for my Impact. Made from CF to keep weight down. Here’s some examples of NC’s work… These are not my parts. Just posting to give an idea of what I’ll be getting.

New shroud is in the mail, on the way to me. Here’s a sneak peek:
Did some more painting too:
Slowly getting the goodies installed… I’ve got the mold for the new slug design in, and I’m just about ready to get my casting set up ready to go. Slowly but surely.April 13, 2021 at 8:50 pm #536494
– Scope rail
– Trigger guard
– Fill nipple cover
– Bolt handle
– Front barrel support
– Top rail
– Both rear side plates
– Adjustable cheek piece (not the actual cheek piece though)
– Barrel shroud *when it comes in*
– Trigger blade
– CF tank
– Power plenum
– Rear receiver block
– Rear gauge cover
– Scope rings *once I decide which one’s I want*
– Butt plate adjustment/locking knob
I didn’t paint any mating surfaces- The paint I’m using (Aluma-hyde 2) tends to fuse to mating surfaces quite well. So I was careful not to paint any mating surfaces for fear of having to pry the parts apart later. I forgot to mention I found someone printing adjustable butt-plates specifically for the Impact on fleabay for a VERY reasonable price, so I snagged one. I’ll post a review of it on this thread once I get it. I don’t really have Saber Tactical or Kraford & Lypt money right now. At least, not for a butt-plate.

She’s reassembled, and filled. Currently keeping an eye on the gauges looking to see if she holds air. So far so good. I found a adjustable butt-plate on fleabay. Price was right, so gave it a try. It’s 3D printed. I like it! It feels solid, and it’s comfortable so far. Time will tell. My Aluma-Hyde 2 paint can took a dump part way through painting the barrel shroud. I had to order another can, which means I have to wait the full cure-time before I can re-coat. I also found that this rifle doesn’t have Wika gauges, so I bought a Wika gauge to replace the front gauge, and a Sekhmet digital gauge for the reg pressure gauge. I’m currently waiting on those. Once I get the gauges in and swapped, I can finally move onto tuning. I have my new slug mold in, and I’ll begin casting soon. We’re getting there!!
NC Shroud (bad pic):
Paint is pretty much done:April 22, 2021 at 6:46 pm #536528
Still holding air… Nice!April 27, 2021 at 2:10 pm #536537
Okay! She’s all done! The pic was taken before the gauge swap, but I’ve installed the new Wika gauge on the side, and the Sekhmet digital gauge for the regulated air. Currently the reg is set for 135 bar. I’ve got to set up my casting station, and will be casting slugs soon. I’ll keep y’all posted! Once I get a good amount of slugs cast, it’ll be time to move onto tuning!!April 30, 2021 at 10:17 pm #536543
STILL holding air!! I’m ecstatic! I’ve still got to get my casting station set up. I need to make a mount for my thermocouple (that goes to the PID) before I REALLY sit down and set up my casting station. Adulting’s keeps getting in the way.
