Building a new barrel shroud. This one is fluted. Used a 7/8 inch ball end mill to cut 8 flutes into this barrel shroud. It knocked 1/4 pound off the weight of the shroud. Your looking at it in a “rough” condition – no polishing , no clean up. The muzzel plug is threaded 12 threads per inch.
The shroud on the completed gun you see is extra long and extra quiet.
Yes the fluting was all done on the milling machine. Dont burn your garage, just buy some equipment! That lathe is a 12 inch Craftsman, and cost me $250 (I watched the want ads for a long time to get that deal! ). My milling machine is one of those cheap chinese mill/drills.
I think I’ll build a new gun to go under that barrel shroud.
