Roy S.

That’s starting to look sweet. 😀

well bodi your right with the weight off the wood by god u would need to use the bi-pod lol but it would be second to none no one could match it could they .with this set i have picked the best section off wood i had ans there was a couple off not,s on the outside off the wood as i started .the start off bit was 2.1/2 “and u realy do need it for the thumbhole and u need to off ste the main action section but doing that give,s u the problem off the back were the bottle runs down as it,s not totaly in the middle but with the but stock on it,ll look fine ..i did pic up a rasp set the other day mate so no worries there the wood things anoying tho mate u guys r lucky u can get all type and i realy do struggle getting it . my next design i would show u my design but at the mo i have changed a few wee bit and i,m sure i,ll change more so i,ll hold off on the pics the now ..well back to work lads .. u getting there bodi hope alls well with the family and all 😀

Made of coco 😯 expensive and would weigh more than the gun, can’t believe how dense this wood is. Would look dam good.

So what your saying is your going to drop the buttstock idea and just do the grip and foregrip in one piece?

How thick was your blank 2.5″? Little more?

The staining will look nice especially in the thumbhole area i see some nice grain there. I also like the relief routering you did. I did the same to Robs foregrip and will also with the coco one. Waiting for the OK from the guy who wants the set. We agreed on a different foregrip but i have since seen some other details i’d like to add. Did you get your rasps/files yet? Remember if you ever need something i’ll pick it up for you. Palm chisels are a useful addition as well. I look forward to the finished product. I’m off to the basement now to get some more done on the coco and work on the scaled drawing. Take care, keep up teh good work.

well bodi your right with the assessmant off the grayness in the wood but i managed to get a nice bit so far i haven,t got any well a tinny bit at the bottom but thats got cut off first thing . as u c from my first pic,s i got the wood and done the drawings on that but brefore i done some drawing on papaer and after this one u will c me doing one straight away this one will be from grip to grip and noe extra .. one hole peice again ..i like the idea off haveing the one piece with not cut,s in it as it give,s u the choice to use the one fixing piont like i did with this one ..i talked to a carpinter mate i have and he said not to worry about the wood and prommised me it stains up very well as he has used it plenty off time,s and said the grain will come through aswel .this is the look i wanted for this stock … the idea odd useing foam well i have used the clay to do hand grips but i just go with the flow and many time,s i changed things on my stocks so i just drawings to look at and that suite my needs but as u said if your useing a very enspensive wood i would think about the foam. i would love to c thuis stock made from coco i thing u wouldn,t beat it .. 😀

True on the attachment deal. Nice to get rid of that metal trigger guard isn’t it. You’ve done very well, i have some plans for this winter and a full stock. Still working on a scaled drawing. I’m going to do it on grid paper as well showing the spacing of everything, maybe it will be off a help to some in the future.

One thing with Poplar is it can sometimes take stains uneven. Here in the states one of its uses is for mill work, woodwork in houses which call for painted woodwork vs. stained and poly’ed. A coat of boiled linseed oil/mineral spirits before staining helps, wood conditioner by min-wax is about the same thing and another choice. Your piece looks pretty good i’ve seen pieces which have the same graining/color as yours then it changes to grey right in the middle of the wood. You can get this with walnut as well, heart wood the dark stuff is what is kept. I’m not sure if the grey is heart wood in poplar or just the trees natural coloring. Just a heads up incase you didn’t know about it.

What was/is the thickness of the stock, i know your fighting a couple of different dimensions and the headaches involved in trying to get it all to blend together 🙁 . I’ll hit you up for some advice when the time comes.

I got this wild idea from a stone sculpting website. alot of sculpters, carvers use a mock up of clay or foam to work out the right details they want before starting into a piece of stone with just an idea in their heads. Can you get that pink/blue polystyrene insulation? It is those sheets of insulation 4’x8′ up to 2″ thick, but i would just get 3/4″ or 1″ and glue up a couple of blanks. You could work out a stock in a couple of hours trying different ideas, angles, anything you want quick. I’m not talking about any inletting but over all shape, the site has special foam made for this, didn’t check pricing. Figured the blue/pink stuff would work fine. Think of the potential, no more quess work, like i hope this cut turns out nice. Just an idea i thought you might be able to use. If your interested PM me or e-mail me and i can send you a link to the site with the carveable foam. I like the idea alot, but i’ve ben wrong before.

quote Bodhisdad:

Nice work bud, what are your plans on a finish? Wherre did you decide to attach the wood to the frame?

well bodi mate i,m still not a hundred percent sure on finnsish but the stains looking good i,ve used it before so i,m not to worried about useing it then a good few coats off wax to seal it sould do the job . with this stock i,ve went for the single bolt at the rear grip this is easily enought to hold it stable and it also free,s up the front end 😀

Nice work bud, what are your plans on a finish? Wherre did you decide to attach the wood to the frame?

quote Adam in SoCal:

Wow,

That is fancy! Great job. Is it heavy?

na not realy adam but if i realy wanted i could take a good bit more out off the wood .. the router section i could go deaper or i could cut it out all together i could also take a 16mm bore bit and go down the iner section at the back and u would never c it as i,m puttiing a but pad on it

Sweet, if you shoot something and it doesnt die you can beat it with that club ). JK, awesome woodwork as usual.

Wow,

That is fancy! Great job. Is it heavy?
