Q:

My Escape UL

This is my escape ul in .25. I have owned it a couple weeks and as soon as I got the tank filled with my hand pump I took it outside to shoot it one time just to see what it sounded like. I loaded up a jsb kings pellet and shot it into the hill side. The report these guns make without a shroud is cool but not very back yard friendly and my closest neighbor is about 1/4 mile from me and I know that they probably heard it. It was kinda late in the evening. But as soon as I stopped laughing I went straight to the computer and ordered the rlshroud for the escape ul and now it is quiet enough to shoot off of the back porch and not disturb anyone in the house. I would like to have it even quieter and may get the longer RLshroud for it but I will make my mind up after I get to take it squirrel hunting and see if making a shot at one scares the rest out of the area or not. I took the scope I had on my gamo whisper fusion elite, which is a Barska 3x9x42 with mill dot reticle and installed it on the UL. I also put some camo tape on it just to see how I would like it and it has grown on me enough that I am ordering a hydro dip kit this weekend will be dipping the entire gun but the grips and bipod. I have shot around 400 pellets through it and it is starting to really impress me with the accuracy. I am planning on getting a bigger scope for this gun and putting the barska back on the gamo. The only complaint that I had with the gun straight out the box was that the top hat was completely loose and lost the stock gap settings within the first 10 shots and then after pumping the tank back up to 3,000psi is when I noticed that the top hat was screwed in almost all the way. I read to start at .070 and work up from there and that is what I have it set at now. I wont get to shoot again until I am off again on sunday. I want to find the sweet spots on the power wheel for 3 different pellets I have. Everyone in here has more than likely shot these, JSB Kings 25.39, Predator Polymags, and the Eun Jin 43. Those are the pellets I have at the moment and I only have a handful of the jsb’s left. I am placing an order this weekend for some more ammo. Also I have been using my phone with chrono app and it seems close enough to see improvements in my power settings but I want to get a real chrony soon. Also I am really happy with the escape ul and love the smaller tank. If I go down to 2,000psi I can have it pumped back up to 3,000 in under 5 minutes and I only weigh 155lbs. I have no complaints with the airforce hand pump. I know that when it needs a rebuild I can do it myself. Sorry for the long post, just kinda wanted to let everyone know how mine is.

This past holiday weekend I took my escapeul to my brothers to do a little long range targeting. Let me start off by saying that we did not get any video this time so hopefully you guys will take my word until I can get video proof hopefully this coming weekend when I go back down. I have my gun tuned for 10 shots averaging 976fps shooting 25gr jsb exacts. Shooting water bottles at 100yrds was getting boring. You could hit it 10 out of 10 times. So from where we had the bench setup on the front porch he has a long 4×4 that he sat in the ground out at his farthest fence line. The top of the post is exactly 8ft high. The last time he ranged it, it was right at 200yds to the post. So I walked a water bottle out to the post and sat it right on top of it. I used chairgunpro to get an estimate to find the hold over and it was close enough for me to stand near the target while my brother took shots at the bottle. Lucky for us the weather was perfect that entire day and the wind was almost non existent. It was perfect for shooting. He took 10 shots and was close enough for the next 10 shots and I was able to walk him in on each shot until he was actually able to hit the water bottle. It was so cool being out near target and hear the pellet come zipping in at 200yds and smack the bottle. When he started getting close and hitting the post the jsb pellets went in the post about .5in. You could hear the pellet smack the post from back at the gun and it did seem to take forever to hear it. I am embarrassed to say this but it took me about 30 shots to hit it but once I found my hold over I was able to hit it twice in 6 shots. My scope is a 8.5x25x50 and we pretty much had to keep the scope on 10x just to be able to shoot at that distance. Now I need to order a bkl adjustable scope mount because I am hooked on longer range shooting. Hopefully the weather is good this weekend when I go back down so we can setup a couple cameras, possibly 3 cameras for the best proof. Sorry for the long post and delay from the getting on this forum but just been kinda busy. Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.

Buster, it has been fun reading your post on this thread !

I myself am shooting a 25 cal Condor and shooting three pellets …. JSB King Heavies 34gr, EJ Heavies 43gr, and Nielsen’s 39gr slugs, I have my PW set at 5/1 for the JSB’s and they are coming out at 975fps, my EJH’s are coming out about 945fps with the PW at 6/1 as are my slugs at the same PW setting. The only modification is the “O” ring under the Top Hat and the unscrewing of the length of the Top Hat by about .040-.050 to make up for the diameter of the # 009 “O” ring.

I, like you have an R&L shroud, and I love it , IMHO a must have item … it is very clean looking, is rock solid and performs very well. I have a Condor using a Mad Dog stock and that is my Bench Varmint gun, great design on that stock for sure, my other Condors all have Talon Tunes WokGuard15 MK2 (I feel this is also a must have unit).

All my Condors are pure factory on the inside, IMHO, if you understand how they work you can really set them up to be very powerful, yet have a bell curve to get a reasonable amount of shots in a hunting situation.

Buster, keep your post going, I like seeing your progress ;- )

Man thats a sick paint job on there. Nice work. Glad you got this thing running good and getting to shoot it.

Well the wind was horrible today and from where I was positioned at, when the wind did blow it was always from my back. I was shooting from the back deck of my parents house so once the pellet traveled about 10yds it would then get pushed around in the wind and I could not read it very well. So I brought the cans of beer and a target to find my hold and it was on after that point. I did get some on video but don’t know how to upload a file that big from home. I am on satellite internet so it would take forever and they would probably slow my internet down for awhile after it. I may take my pc to work with me one day and upload it from there. But anyways my escape UL was shooting really good today and my arms and back are killing me from all the pumping I did today. Has any of you went through well over an entire tin of 350ct pellets in one day of shooting? I did today, I shot around 400 pellets in one day of shooting. And I don’t even want to know how many pumps I did. But I would do it all again tomorrow if I could but I won’t get to shoot again until sunday when I am off. I also was shooting paint balls off of golf tees at 50 yards and that was harder and more fun than shooting the beer cans at 75yds. One good thing that I found out today was if I zero for 50yrd than when I try to shoot at 100yrd I run out of turret by about 1mildot. So I am going to have to install the adjustable scope rings back on the gun. They work great but they sit too low without a raised mount under them so I took them off and went back to my weaver mounts and riser to get the scope up enough for a comfortable sight picture. Sorry for the long post guys, I am just happy to get as much shooting in as I did.

Taking it out to 100yrds today. Just got done shooting across the chrony and doing a little tuning with the power wheel and I have it shooting the JSB King Heavy 33.95gr pellets at an average of 887fps and that is with a 2700psi fill and after 10 shots I am down to 2300psi. It is really windy here but the wind is blowing from directly behind me towards the target. I am shooting some out dated beers today. lol If all goes well I plan on throwing the iPhone on the scope and record some it. I will post my results later this evening.

Ok, i have not gotten to shoot much in the past week but i do have my escapeUL shooting at 930fps using the jsb king heavy pellets and it is grouping great. I have also polished the barrel at the breach and installed the Super Sear 2 from AOA and it works great. Trigger pull is really low and now i don’t have to worry about pulling a shot because of a stiff trigger. Hopefully the rain holds off for a couple hours today so i can get some shooting in.

I got my new chrony yesterday so I decided to start from scratch. I set my top hat out to where the breech closes smoothly so I know I have my top hat out to its maximum power. I set my power wheel to 4/0 and just took 8 shots over the chrony and here is my results. This string is with the jsb king 25.39gr pellets.
shot count
1=1037
2=1034
3=1032
4=1025
5=1017
6=1004
7=993
8=981
HI=1037
low=981
Avg=1015
Es=56
SD=20
I am just going to leave it like this for a day because I get my QC top hat from Anthony in the morning and will be installing it tomorrow evening and do some real tuning on Tuesday. For now I was just wanting to see what the gun is shooting at with the stock top hat. Do these numbers sound about right for a stock setup on an escapeUL? Also this string had a starting pressure of 3000psi and after the 8th shot the pressure is at 2300psi.

Yea i have a couple tins of the eun jin pellets and they do shoot great in my escape ul. I just like how good the jsb heavy shoot. They group better than the eun jins in mine. I am placing an order with Tony for the QC tophat and some other goodies. Also will be getting my new chrony in the mail this coming week.

Back Roads , sorry , I was thinking of my Vulcan . The EJ’s will not rotate in its magazine . My Talon SS has no problems shooting
the 43 gr. pellet . All Airforce guns are single shot only and do not have magazines for them . Sorry for the mix-up .

FROM : THE BIRDMAN

Good to know there is a magazine for escapes , bummer the eunjins don’t fit . Who sells the Mags , and are they compatable with a stock Escape UL ? Wonder if the domed Eunjins fit ?

Back Roads , I do not know if the Escape UL magazine can handle being loaded with the EUN JIN .25 43.2 gr. pellets . My Talon SS in
.25 Caliber magazine will only allow one pellet to be loaded . Due to the large pellet skirt size , the magazine will not rotate . So
from the magazine you can only load and shoot one pellet of that grain at a time , you can also load that grain directly into the
barrel chamber without the magazine . Too bad one can not load a full magazine because of the large skirt size , at 20 to 30 yds.
this pellet is a deadly kill them for sure pellet .

FROM : THE BIRDMAN

Have you tried the Eun Jin .25 Cal, 43.2 Grain pellets yet ? They give the escape some real knockdown power on high power settings. Though due to their popularity , same with Polymags they are sometimes hard to find.

I just received my order for some of the jsb king heavy pellets in .25 and my escape loves them. I get even better grouping than with the regular 25.39 kings. So far these king heavies are my guns favorite pellet.

I ran MY escape ul 18″ barrel on a low setting of 2 with the o-ring installed and got an average FPS of 1040,keeping it just below the speed of sound, using predator poly mags 16 gr. I use a fill pressure of 2800 PSI . I also found the Air Arms Diabolo Field .22 Cal, 5.51mm, 16 Grains, Domed, have no change in POI from the Polymags, so a good less expensive pellet to carry along in the field, with Polymags. I turned the power down to 1 and am getting 983 avg. FPS :mrgreen:

Now I just did my shot count from a full fill 3000psi with the power wheel at 6/7 and took 28 extremely accurate shots and the gauge says 1700psi left in the tank. Even when I stopped shooting I did not notice any drop in poi. I am really happy about this. I will still probably keep shooting from 2700psi with 10 shots between fill ups but at least I know I have 28 good shots in the field while hunting. Now just to wait till tomorrow to order my new chony and I will be all set to get the numbers on fps so I can get the right info for using chairgun. And to find the sweet spot for my other pellets. I have jsb, polymags, and h&n grizzly.
