Q:

Mixing oil and HPA!!!

Saw this link over on the Yellow Forum about someone using motor oil in their hand pump and the resultant injury. If you’ve never heard about this dangerous combination, here’s a good lesson for us all.

I’ve been using silicone wheel bearing grease mixed with pure silicone on my hill pump.

Like one said, in response to the original post as linked above, A WAKE-UP CALL ❗

A couple years ago, as a newbie I complained that the grease on my AF pump looked dirty. I was told that I could wipe it off and use a little motor oil on the outer tube. I already had divers silicone which I choose to use instead. Eventually, after sending the 2nd pump in under warranty I got a Hill pump and didn’t look back.

After some time I left the Hill connected pressurized a bit, by a heat register. It was locked up and required a tear down. The grease had hardened at the lower check valve.
Having learned to dislike divers silicone because it appeared tacky, I opted to use White Lithium grease. I no-longer use the pump to fill. I do use it a lot to check PSI while tuning and it works great.

i read about that and sympathize. i have an airforce pump (under warranty) with problems. i contacted airforce and they put me in touch with sunopticsusa.

and, they repeatedly state all parts of their pump should be lubed with motor oil. i have it in printed instructions from them and via email. the following is a reply to an email from me double checking about using motor oil:

lube all parts with motor oil.

I bet that guy is thinking an SCBA bottle setup is looking better all the time. 😉

Not aimed at you JFK as you did post your souce, but the guy who posted it on airgun ca should have posted the source and not just said “posted on another forum”.
