then theres the countless tank dumps, which is scary to begin with when dealing with .308 and up valves…they dump in a second or two….with power to push you off balance
i miss it…but i got a garage now, thats not insulated….dont have a basement…so neighbors will hear each boom…not good
Holy Cow bro, that must have been something! Thank God you didn’t have a wandering mother in law cruising around the house 😯
Nothing quite that scary here, but once I didn’t realize a 2260 tube was still under pressure during a build and it ended up shooting through my aluminum housing on a hanging garage light and it embedded into the drywall. My heart was beating like a hummingbirds.
see when i started making valves and trying to go big bore…it was ll in its infancy ….people who knew wasnt telling, so it was trail and error…so i have been through my shares of crap my pants moments..i dont know if the pictures are still up from when my bottle decided to push stem and delin out of the bottle while it was lying next to my lathe…it said booom…flew into my b51 and broke the stock…flew through a big cardboard box from my speakers…and that was heavy duty 2-3 layers of cardboard…flew about 30 feet to the back of my basement…took a chunk of concrete out, flipped 180 and came back my way….holy fucking crap that was scary

OK, who was the kid that was on here about 3-4 years ago? IIRC, he was in high school and his name might have been Cricket.
He was on here all of the time and his work was outstanding!
I haven’t seen him post here for a long time: he might have blown himself up and his parents didn’t know how to contact us here.
I am currently working on mods for my FX Boss. I have been into PCPs for 5 years or so, this high pressure stuff still makes me very leery!
Excellent information Cyg, as usual from you.
That poster with the brass valve was only on board here one day, the day he joined he posted 23 times, then was never heard of again. I hope he is alright.
This is a fast moving world now. Hopefully parents are monitoring what their kids are exposed to. And hopefully the parent understands that this stuff can be extremely dangerous as well as life threatening.
Law suits lag far behind. They have never been able to replace an eye or a life.
But, with good parenting, their child could eventually become a successful engineer and/or lead a happy productive life.
Mine had a stainless steel valve stem. I used a 115grm hammer with no problems
th,
Was that used with a heavy hammer ❓
Brass seems so brittle I wonder if it would take very much pounding.
yeah i would be VERY careful with brass, been there done that, might work for 20 shots or 200, you will probably notice that it all of a sudden gets inconsistent which means it has bend somewhere, one more shot and the tophat could tear loose and become the pellet…shooting right into the breech…with enough power to cock the rifle…
200bar /3000 psi air getting out of the bottle in a couple of seconds very violent thing, and it has enough power to send dust particles/metal splinters etc into you skin…worse yet it has the power to rip skin open, or push air under the skin…hearing damage etc
i had it happen to me, and it wasnt even a full blast…but my right arm was pepperet with small red spots some with black metal shavings in them now where exactly those particles came from i not sure
if you intend to make and sell them….be very careful, especially if you sell to americans, as they will sue you if they shoot them self in the foot by an accident ! it can ruin the rest of your life !
i know brass is nice to turn in and dont rust (much)….you can get machining steel (high lead content) way stronger and more elastic than brass, and is not as bad as steel or stainless to machine….once you hit that golden moment where you valve is perfect then make it in stainless

nearly 6 years ago ……. holy crapola time flies…..
I had this valve in my old condor i had. It was a badass valve
Interesting
Marc,
Any more updates on your valve?
21 grain Kodiak –> over 1000 FPS
28 grain Eunjin –> over 925 FPS 53 FPE
17 grain predator –> 1100 FPS
18 inch .22 cal barrel
Stock Talon SS Spring , Stock Talon SS hammer
I have 22 prototype valves and 150 hours into developing this valve.
You saw It here first.

When I get my lathe up an running I am going to hit you up for some tips. That is a clean nice design. Does it use a O-Ring for the valve stem? The spring you are using is it the same strength as the stock one or softer? The design allow a great amount of airflow. You tease!
I tried it with and without the “O” ring It works better without the drag induced by the “O” ring.
Theres more power in the present prototype. I can overfill to 220 bar and it just kicks out more power. Right now I have no bell curve and the valve opens with a 220 fill. This tells me the orfice is still too small. When I open up the orfice, I expect to see increased power, and the bell curve taking shape.
Mark
Oh my God…that is awesome….

yeah something like that really gets you going…i was so happy i was still wearing hearing protection….i had the tank off to do something on the rifle…just a quick fix kind of thing…and blammo…it was loud with hearing protection on…
i just for a minute or two running self diagnosis…my feet still ok…all fingers accounted for….that kind of thing…then slowly notice the plastic cup with oil in it was gone…well not gone…just everywhere…oil oil oil..good for the lathe…not so good for sheetrock LOL
it amazing the punch those airtanks have once they are airborne they sure pick up speed like a rocket
