Has anyone experimented with, or have knowledge of, a Moderator design that is quite short but has a large circumference? A Condor with a shroud is way too long for my tastes, so I was wondering whether a similar efficiency could be achieved with a can that is fat and stubby.February 17, 2008 at 12:14 am #34074
That does sound like a cool looking setup something like the big .50cal, but sealed off on the sides. Maybe have the barrel bushings drilled out to help. Tron….wait till Adam see “Length vs Girth” he will come up with somthing cool 😆February 17, 2008 at 12:44 am #34078cygnus-x-d82Participant
its mostly about volume so defiantly doable…you just need enough distance between baffel to let the air stream fan out a bit, and to help maintain backpressure, a series of baffels close together at the end of the mod
buddy of mine in DK used pvc pipe used for raingutters about 4″ diameter, with offset pellet path so it kinda hung on the barrel vs being centredFebruary 17, 2008 at 2:48 am #34085rhodermanParticipant
Stealth Mode custom made just for you Tron!
Should be great for ratting and urban pest control!
And it’s quiet
Yeah, I need to get back out in the shop and get to work…

Tron, check out wikpedia on firearm silencers lots of informative info. From what we know 6″ beyond the end of barrel works fine at 1″ ID or so. What about 4″ at 2″ ID its the same volume A spacer in front of the barrel vented will make use of the frames rear empty space.
Heres an idea i have, get 1″ OD ali tubing slide that all the way back to the front bushing and have it extend to the point you want the LDC to end at, 4″ infront of barrel. In that tube use a plastic/urethane bushing with holes drilled into it similar to a vented bushing. This goes in front of the barrel, both to let air escape rearward and to protect the crown from the metal mesh (hardware cloth) Wrap hardware cloth around a dowel 5/16″ and use these as baffles. I see these as the same as the hair curlers fund in some Ag LDCs. In your case 1″ and 1.5″ strips should do. Fill to the top of 1″ tubeing spaceing out the wire mesh with felt washer, or urethane bushings. I’d drill the body of the 1″ tube where the 4″Lx2″W LDC will sit. This will help more air escape into the big empty 2″W tube. Then you’ll need a pair of spacers 1″ id to go over the ali tube and the OD will be determined by the 4″x2″ can you slide over the 1″ ali tubing and spacers you installed, some kind of 2″ endcap and you’ll be quiet as a mouse. I don’t see why you couldn’t use 2″od PVC as the end can, as all alignement is determined by the 1″ ali tube. It should look dam sweet being 1″W and then 2″W at the end. Almost 2 LDCs in one. Check out my link if you haven’t, read about the material involved. I did alot of searching yesterday and i can see a setup like this working for you. Tony could whip something like this up if he can work with 2″W round stock. Thing would look like a big bull barrel with a short 2″ ldc on it. Let me know if this was any help.February 17, 2008 at 11:42 am #34102quote photo22:
Adam would want both 😆 :P. Did you see Orca?February 17, 2008 at 2:03 pm #34109quote Bodhisdad:
Oh man did I. That was hell of funny 😆 😆February 17, 2008 at 2:09 pm #34110
Tron, I think this is one hell of a setup. This Idea could be modded and closed up to make things quiet. Can’t remember who’s it is?February 17, 2008 at 3:07 pm #34121quote Bodhisdad:
Oh you are going to get it now….LOL
Length VS. Girth?….well since you beg for either depending on your mood, you can now have your cock and eat it too….LOL 😆 😆 😆 😆February 17, 2008 at 5:48 pm #34138
I knew it was COMING…..LOL 😆 😆February 17, 2008 at 6:22 pm #34146
It was inevitable, but the orca post will never die.
Adam, does that work for you?? 😛 I don’t see any room for enlargement on my behalf 😆 .February 18, 2008 at 12:14 am #34173quote Bodhisdad:
