leaking breech seals
Hi guys i need help.
Although my gun seems to be shooting ok, i have noticed yesterday the breech is leaking from the barrel end o ring. I thought i would replace them with 90 durometer rings yet the problem is still the same. Should i go up a size or two in Oring? The factory ones were 1.7 mm.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway.. looks like i have a spare tank that is useless at the moment. Lucky i have 2 tanks or i’d be out of action completly. So now i must try and machine a new valve stem, does anyone have the dimensions of the valve stem on the newer valve?
1. yes, tophat screws off the stem to the rear….. it will only go forward to a certain point and stop.
2. you could get dimensions by measuring your old one.
Yeah i tried that.. Pulled the vlave stem out after bleeding the air out of the tank. Tried to unscrew the tophat off. Well i dont think the tophat screws off. I ended up stuffing the valve stem. Do you unscrew the tophat backwards and then slide it off the vlave stem?

Just change the O ring inside the valve that is supposed to stop the air leaking past the stem when the valve is open… You’ll need a small pick, like a dental tool.
Thanks SpinJ, I mean my valve stem seems to leak from firing, not in a static filled mode. The tank doesnt loose pressure overnight or anything like that, juts feel an air blast when firing. From looking on this forum and noting the dfference from new to old vavle, mine definatley looks like a new vavle, ut experince 2 things, one the stem leaks on firing, and 2 the gun doesnt like 3000psi fills.
I wouldn’t necessarily say that your valve is leaking. I don’t know if you’ve ever done so, but if you’ve taken apart the valve assembly, you would’ve noticed that the brass base (the part the valve stem goes through) doesn’t have an o-ring to keep air in when the valve is opened upon firing. Thus, when firing the gun, some air escapes from this region; this is why you feel a slight puff of air coming out of the valve area. I do. It may seem like it’s the actual valve itself that is leaking, but it isn’t.
Try this: note the PSI on your bottle and let it sit overnight or for several hours. Check again if the pressure has changed. If it stays the same, your valve is okay.
Now, the newer valves for the Condors have an o-ring in the area I’ve mentioned above (in the inner wall of the brass base). Here’s a link to a photo taken before to show you what I mean: http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=353&highlight=condor+valve
I hope I’ve helped a bit.
I thought that too, so i put in fresh lubes orings 90 durometer and greased up barrel and tophat.
But now i think i have a leaking valve as a few guys have mentioned allready. The air blast was from the shroud. But lighting a flame near the tophat and dry firing nd the flame gets blown out. I would assume that means its the valve stem that is leaking??
The o-rings are lubed up right? I’m thinking they might be that dry that they aren’t sealing.
Not completely sure, but worth a look over.
I re checked everything today again. Tried something i read here and put a lighter near the tophat and fired the gun without a pellet and you guessed it the flame blew out.
Looks like my ascertion the breech was leaking was wrong. So if the tophat valve stem is leaking, how can i fix that?? Any help guys? I think the spare tank is exactly the same and leaks from the valve stem.
I took of the shroud also and did a number of firings and i dont know how i felt air before, cause there was none when i tried it today.
well i just tried some bigger Orings. Went from 1.78mm to 2 mm and there is less air blast but still the problem persists.
Does anyone else have this issue? I thought it may have been the back blast from the shroud as i have vented the front bushing. But pulling off the Shroud didnt stop the air blast.
I am curious to hear if anyone has ever had the same thing happen to them? Could it be nesecary to have 2 orings on the barrel to stop the leaking air?
If that is the case, it sound like you are on the right track.
No its a Condor mate. And i am pretty sure it is not leaking from the vavle as i cannot feel any pulse of air from the back of the breech, where it connects to the tophat. The blast i feel comes predominantly from the power wheel adjustment hole and the top of the frame where the hammer slides. I can say i am definatly sure its not the valve, have 2 tanks and both do the same thing. No blast felt from the tophat or back of the breech.
I thought it was a little bit strange when i changed the O rings the ring over the barrel slipped in easy compared with the rear ring. When i first cocked the gun after installing the orings the rear one was very tight when cocking the gun. It took a bit of force to pass over the barrel when cocked. After which it eased a little but still has a good tight seal toward the rear of the barrel and tophat. I think that i may have a faulty or incorectly machined breech or barrel. Perhaps the oring groove is bigger or deeper at one end than the other? I dont think the barrel is smaller in diameter than the tophat ( i will measure that shortly) as the rear oing is a nice tight fit compared to the front oring. I have used silicone grease on barrel and tophat. So i am kinda certian i need a new larger Oring. Unfortunatley for me i live in Australia, i imported the guns myself, otherwise i would have sent the gun back to Airforce. And as i am importing more of these guns this may be a reocurring problem, i need to find a solution for.
I will try to get larger diameter orings and fit and try till i fix the problem today, i will post any results incase this is a common problem. Unless one of you guys have a better idea that may help?
In the most extreme case i could machine a new breech, but i am not to confident of doing internal grooves.I might be better off ordering a custom breech from Anthony.
That is not a leak. That is the back pressure escaping from the blast out of the muzzle if your gun is a TSS
I f you have the new style valve then it could be the inner seal in the brass cap. That’s where mine was leaking.
yes it does click all the way back. I made sure of that. I dont feel much if any air come out of the back of the breech top hat area, but i feel a blast from the powerwheel hole and top of the action where the frame is cut for the breech nob.

Yeah i think i will have to do that this week. I was surprised by the lack of qaulity in the machining of the valve stem on the spare tank. It was ok, but not finished off very well, no where near a polished finish. And the oring inside the vlave body are just plain old crap ! The oring i pulled out looked more like a piece of cotton than string. It had absolutly no affect on sealing the air. i replaced it with a larger one, but couldnt check for leaks as i destroyed the stem. Does anyone know what size orings will seal the valve stem and also what the tophat orings should be?
