Kinda frustrated; could someone please help?
Hi I was just about to order a carbin fiber tank from a guy that was initially slated to be around $235, then at the last minute he mentioned that I’d need a $129 hose for it to work with my air gun I’m going to get (condor).
I guess I need some explanation from either someone, or could someone send me a link to some instructions etc, on the easiest and cheapest way to hook my gun up to a tank. I’ve also found locally a decent deal on a regular 3000psi used scuba tank for $75 so that’s an option also, although I would much prefer the fiber tank the guy was selling (it’s about 12 pounds!), but I just can’t afford to pay as much in scuba gear as the gun itself (I totalled up the fittings he said I’d need, the $129 hose et. al. and it was like $500!).
Can someone shed some light for me here? Should I just go the cheap route of using the scuba tank for $75? If so what’s the least adapater stuff I’d need – and would I also need the $129 hose for that? Thanks

I remember when most airgunners only had scuba tanks and handpumps available to them. And they used them for years.
I used a scuba for years to fill my PCP and survived and got many shots. Only in the last several years have CF tank become readily available and places would actually fill them.
I had 4 CF tanks that I used in paintball and could not find 1 single place to fill them 4 years ago. I had to give them to my friend who could get them filled in Los Angeles. While I live 35 miles from L.A. it is an hour trip to get there.
So while CF is ideal it is not alway plausible. So a scuba tank has to suffice for many airgunners or a hand pump.
And while some may think it is silly to use a scuba tank they also are not volunteering to buy or pump anyones tank who does not have a CF one. So people will use and make the best of what they have available.
just a comment…… 🙂
Duely noted… and replaced
overfilling is not to be recomended at all!
The operator that does is courting disaster and could be in a pile of doodoo if something goes south on a customer.
So that practice really has little real world application. Would you rec’d a 3000 tank to someone with an air hungry gun?
It was not that long ago pretty much everyone was complaining about the trouble getting a Condor to shoot as advertised from a 3000psi fill. The trend at that time was guys removing the burst disks and plugging the hole, filling to 3200, 3400psi looking for big power.
That is the frame of reference I come from when I say that a 3000psi tank is next to a waste of hard earned money.
Walter….
BTW if that gal is not yours then perhaps it is indeed a bit tasteless
just a comment…… 🙂
Well the only thing that kinda concerned me was that it involved a kid in a semi-akward (possibly sexual) scenario… anyway.
AHhhh!!! What the heck is going on here? WHERE are you guys finding these deals lol. Every time I turn around someone on here is posting that they found a cf tank for $100 or a scuba tank for $20. lol
First off, let me address the picure. I believe that is an “African American” girl and not Latino. But I could be wrong. Second, I wish I did know who she was, but thanks to the magic of google and the internet, there she is. Now, on to my Condor. As I’ve posted before, I regularly get my scuba tank filled up to as much as 3400 psi so I actually do get quite a few good complete fills before the pressure starts dropping off. I know over filling the scuba tank will wear it out quicker, but since I got it for $40 and only paid $20 to get it hydro tested, I’m willing to deal with that. Unfortunately, I have MANY things to fill besides my Condor. I have my Dragonslayer, Sam Yang 909, Career Ultra 9mm, HPA tank for my Drozd, and my TalonSS. The sad part is, I don’t get much time to shoot so I still only have to get my tank filled every 2-3 weeks. The nice part is, the scuba shop I use is only 3 doors down from where I work and the guy who runs it used to run a paintball field. He doesn’t charge me anything to fill my tank so I’m VERY lucky in that regard. I know my situation is unique, but it works for me. If I had the money for a 4500psi CF tank, I would probably get it, but then I would have to find someplace to fill it to that pressure and it will probably be farther away and they will charge me. So, for me, I’m happy with the setup I have now. I even have an extra scuba tank, but it has a leaky valve that needs replaced, so I probably won’t ever bother with it.
That’s what I’ve read and heard from people like airhog etc, that the condor is best around 2700psi.
I have to admit I wondered about the pic too; almost seems in poor taste (no offense). But yeah definitely the chick is hot lol, love those latina girls 😉
Nuglor, would you settle for 4-5 fills at decreasing pressure each fill?
I do not think a 3000psi tank will result in much satisfaction when filling a powerful .25 Condor.
BTW who is the beauty in the pic? Beautiful girl, that kid needs to step back and give that gal some respect 🙂
Walter….
I’m not trying to stir up the waters, but I’ve had my .25 Condor from Tony for a while now and I won’t fill it past 2900. When I fill it to 3000, the valve isn’t opening all the way and my fps is way down. After a few shots and the pressure has dropped some, it’s up to full power and shooting a 37g Eun Jin at 965fps. Just my 2 cents worth.
Ronald, you asked about a .25 Condor.
Ask .25 Condor owners if they are happy with a 2900psi fill?
Walter….
A gun that wants 3000psi fills must be fed from a 4500psi tank.
Ronald, this is still solid information and no malice intended.
Walter…
Really? “must” be filled from a 4500? Wow I guess there are a lot of people wrong then.
That is cool info Rusty and exactly what I found when refilling my tank from an afternoon of shooting. I refilled to about 50psi less than the last fill.
I’ve got some testing from tuning my gun to lower fills than max pressure…
14″ .177 2,610psi start 61 shots
1093 fpe total
17.9 fpe avg
850 fps avg
14″ .177 2,465psi start-1,914psi end 62 shots
1073 fpe total
17.3 fpe avg
832 fps avg
Jan 5th .22 24″ barrel tuned to 20fpe w/14.3 grain pellet
2,900 psi to 2393 psi = 507 psi for 105 shots
2091 fpe total
19.9 fpe avg
783 fps avg
Hope this helps some…SCUBA is fine and I’m plenty happy with mine.
EDIT: forgot to mention I’ve had the SCUBA setup for around 4-5 years and just now got a 4,500psi tank and fittings…I’m missing a seal so I havn’t used it yet but am really looking forward to it. I also use a pump here regularly(prolly 3 fills from empty and 100+ partial fills) for the last 5 months and it makes me REALLY appreciate the SCUBA 😆
Jim.

Do not take shortcuts on these components.
If this all is too much money then investigate a CO2 adapter that allows you to use paintball tanks. Then when you are more flush get into the PCP part of the hobby.

Walter…
Please don’t tell me how to walk… I didn’t start it. I’d just like to see it wind down, dirty harry and I are cool now and the other guy will be ignored so we’re all good I think. No need to go starting more stuff ok?

I’ve been pretty lucky I guess. When I sent my old bottle to AF for the FREE new valve upgrade they sent a brand new tank with the new valve in it. I would have been happy if they just put the new valve in. I fill that bottle to 3100PSI sometimes and the pellets scream out of the barrel. No pneumatic valve lock at all. 8) 8)
