Introduction

Hi all!

I have posted a couple of times, but I thought I would introduce myself.

My name is Bruce and I am in Houston. (are there any others from Houston here?) I am new to PCP’s. I think I have decided on a new Talon SS from Tony at Talon Tunes. I like the idea of having the mods done by a known specialist. Tony seems to get great reviews from everyone here.
I am thinking of having it tuned with a 18′ barrel and a shroud. also a custom hammer and valve work. I have some questions so I will ask them here, as Tony has not gotten back to me yet. I can imagine he is quite busy.

1. I am thinking the mods to the gun will void the Air Force warranty. What
should I expect as far as reliability, and what kind of issues do these guns
tend to have?

2. Is there any advantage starting with a Condor frame? (longer scope rail and
thicker frame)

3. Could you estimate fps on low power verses high with a given pellet?

OK here are some more questions I have.

Where can I find more info on Blodnob valves? I google it and only find references to it but no real information.

What bipod is best? I have read that the Air Force one is not too strong?

What air pump do you guys like best?

Ok, thats it for now!
Thanks so much! I have really enjoyed the Forum!

Nuglor,

I like your Avator (sp?). You live close to some of my favorite country, Texas Hill Country! My Grand parents had property on lake LBJ. I love to ride FM 1431 into Kingsland. I hope I will be able to pack my TSS with me on my bike for trips there!

I live about 1/2 a mile from 1431 where it intersects Hwy 183. It’s one of my favorite roads for riding motorcycles. I’ve had many a good ride to Marble Falls and back. If you have a larger size backpack, you should have no problem packing your SS with you. 😀

Hi JPAG!

I think WOK answered most/all of your questions…I’m very fond of the 18″ or shorter barrels as it keeps the gun nice and compact.

A gun from Tony will be sorted out completely, I’m sure of it. He knows these guns inside and out.

I and many others on here have shot many 1,000’s of pellets through our guns and my only problems have been:

#1. On MY 3 out of 4 unmodded guns the “safety” would randomly fire the gun when clicked off! all 4 of my “safety’s” when clicked off the hammer would move forward from 1/64″-1/16″+ (which is SCARY to me, I don’t want ANYTHING not to mention the hammer moving when I click a safety off) WOK found stretching that one spring slightly to solve the issue of the hammer moving forward AND overcoming the trigger mechanism. I remove my “safety’s” now and if I load and do not fire I point the gun in a safe direction, hold the breach slide, pull the trigger and slowly let the breach back (like uncocking a revolver or blackpowder gun). This is in my mind safer than having the gun cocked and loaded….

#2. After many 1,000’s of shots and several years the trigger parts got dry/unlubed and the sear would not engage fully and keep the hammer back. I have only had this happen on one gun and I was TDY in a Hotel for several months so I sprayed some “Synthetic Slick50 one lube” on the parts in hopes it might do something and it frigging fixed it! I have since taken it apart cleaned, polished and lubed the whole works and it is SUPER SMOOTH and crisp now(just like you’ll get it from Tony).

#3. Not really a problem but just a quirk of the guns is the bushings fit a little sloppy on the barrel(some not all guns) and I use 1 or 2 wraps of clear tape to take up all the slop so the bushing fits on the barrel very tight(then tighten the setscrew) or a piece on the outside of the bushing to make it nearly a press fit in the frame. I’me sure this helps with pellets clipping the baffles/endcap and surely has helped my POI changes when taking the barrel out and puting it back in. It might also make the gun more consistant? maybe? NOTE: not everyone does or ever really needs to take there guns apart, I just do a hell of a lot of tinkering and experimenting with parts and different setups.(From Tony I wouldn’t take the gun apart for a long time as there should be no need to).

#4. The stock valves puff a little air new and a lot more air after a couple 1,000 shots…this has been completely solved by puting an o-ring in the valve body sealing the valve stem…Tony does this simple fix and it makes a WORLD of difference. No puffing air in the face 😡 and (slightly?) less air used per shot. The newest valves might have an o-ring in them from the factory?

Definitely let us know when you get your new baby 😉

Jim.

I will go with what Tony thinks is best on the safety.

I have to get the rest of the other stuff still. I think I will get a Harris bipod that swivels. Do I need the adapter to clamp on the bottom rail?
I need to decide on a scope and some kind of air supply.

I never had a problem with my safety but some of the guys have. Setting the safety and the hammer would drop….not good. The remedy was to stretch the safety spring a little or move it in position. An easy fix and it will be something you don’t have to mess with.

I got my Condor from Tony completely modded with .25 barrel, valve upgrade, hammer and spring, shroud and O-ring mod. We never even discussed it, but when I received it, the safety had been removed completely. I never even missed it. I have a TalonSS that has some mods, but not by Tony and it still has the stock safety. TOTAL CRAP and a pain in the ass to boot. If you still want to keep it, have tony smooth it out for you.

Thanks for the welcome AKULA. This is actually JPEG’s thread that I hijacked for my own means 😈

Short of removing the safety, which I’d rather not do, the spring that you relocate or stretch, I’m guessing, is the one under the sear in order to put more upward pressure on it. Is that right?

Welcome Pilgrim! John Wayne used that term to describe green horns.

I have an Airforce bipod and can’t say I recommend it. A Harris or a knock off from eBay will work better. I have a Condor, TalonSS and Talon modded to .25 cal with a 24″ barrel. I’m happy with each and every one of these weapons. The Talon SS has a shorter effective range but makes up for that in size. The longer guns are more powerful and have their uses at ranges out to 100 yards.

As far as the safetys on these things….they are crap. So in the immortal words of John Wayne, pilgrim, lose it. AKULA

Problems that will pop up are sometimes the safety acts up. But since you are getting the gun from Tony he will go through it and fix anything before you touch it.

Adam, what do you mean by act up? What problems does the safety have?

The set up you are looking at is similar to how I have mine. I have a shroud and a 16″ barrel. I did modify my valve and gets 855fps with Kodiak and 955fps with Priemeres with an 18″ barrel it will get more.

The Condor and SS frame are basically the same with the Conodor haveing an extra support at the scope rail….is it necessary…naw.

Blodnob is a memeber here. Send him a PM and see what he has to offer.

Welcome
