BAM B51 – Part 2
A look at the “Chuntsman”

http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/

I found this in his blog.

“I filled the male Foster fill nipple with Crosman Pellgunoil and then filled the rifle to 1,000 psi with my carbon fiber tank. I was hoping that the Pellgunoil would be blown into the reservoir and perhaps get on the seals, where the dirt would be floated off.”

I feel the need to say…Do not ever put oil into a HPA system it is dangerous. I personally have seen flames shoot out of Carbon Fiber Tanks while filled at the paintball field. The HPA due to compression will ignite oil and the pressure will send it out like a flame thrower. The first time I saw it it scared the crap out of me. That is when I learned to use silicon which does not ignite.

He should not be telling people to put oil into the foster on a HPA system. It does not happen all the time but it has the potential to do so.

Here is a link showing a incident reported on a paintball site showing the outcome of HPA+OIL. If I am wrong please let me know.

Its great that he thanked those folks for pointing out a mistake HE had made and potentially stopping a HUGE lawsuit or injury from occurring instead of just covering his ass and backpedaling and trying to blame it on some misinformation he had received way back whenever. Oh wait….nm.

Everyone makes mistakes and it is very good he stepped up and made it clear he was wrong….I respect that.

BB post his retraction.

Good job Adam. I have seen the claim that “Pellgun oil is silicone oil” created confusion in other forums as well not too long ago. In the petroleum business, it’s not uncommon to call transmission fluid red oil. 😀

I contacted Pyramid Air and they quickly changed the Blog as well as the Pellgun oil page.

Take a look. http://www.pyramydair.com/blog/

This might clear it up….

From Crosman themselves –

Never use regular pellgun oil for a spring air rifle.

I thought pellgun oil was non detergent 30wt motor oil?

I also heard that it is just automatic transmission fluid…. Both of which are mineral oils.

Hmmm…

I know they make a silicon chamber oil. But it is differant then Pell gun oil

Adam, for your info., B.B. has claimed several times in previous postings that pellgun oil is silicone oil, not petroleum based oil per se.

Like a diesel engine IED! 😯

Good info Adam, perhaps you should drop him a line and kindly let him know.

Even if it isn’t 100% dangerous every time, the few and far between are costly enough for me to NEVER fill or touch a tanks working parts with lubricants. ❗

Thanks for the warning.

Jim
