Q:

Holy Cow I think I am ruined

I just picked up a Leupold VXIII 4.5-14 x 50 AO

WOW 😯 😯

The thing is clear, bright, small, light.

The depth of view is astounding compared to any of the other AO scopes I have.

It is crystal clear on 14 power at 15’…………….lookout Bugbusters.

I think I am in love, how can I put it on the rifle I use the least (Howa .223) ??? I want to just move it to whatever gun I am shooting.

Of course the price tag new is a bit steep, I found it used for $400, about half price.

I need to go shooting, now………………..

Rusty; That is same scope that I use on my WBY 30.378. You’re right, it’s an incredible scope…..I better go check the gun safe to make sure you don’t have mine! AKULA

So very true GT! I get a kick out of seeing the pellet fly! And seeing a hit at 100 yds is well worth the money! I do a lot of night hunting for varmints with and without a light. Good optics are a must for me.

Good glass is so wonderful. That is stunning scope, I have one on a PB that I use for long range, low light. Knifemaker has it right. It seems to me now after many years in the shooting sports that a good rule of thumb is “for an accurate firearm, the glass should cost at least as much as the gun” That’s as opposed to the old Colonial rule “one may not beat one’s wife with a stick larger than one’s thumb”

The Leupold EFR (Extended Focus Range) scopes are built for rimfire and airguns. They will focus down to 10 yards, and are built to handle springer recoil. At any rimfire competitive game the Leupolds are on 90 % of the guns there. Available in 3×9 and 6.5 X 20, they are stunning. I have seen the pellet whiz by doves on a wire more than 100 yards away several times with the 6.5 x 20. Really helpful for that last bit of wind correction. My only complaint is that the focus is on the front ring instead of by the turrets. They of course are a boatload of money, however I have had the 6.5 X 20 for several years now, it has graced several guns, and I have never for one instant been unhappy I spent the money for it. Particularly in glass, I have several things that seemed like too much money but have given me 10 or 15 years of outstanding service. It took me a long time to learn the expensive glass lesson, I would have been better served to have learned it earlier.

Think your not ruined but spoiled 🙂

I didn’t bother with what quality optics I used but got a Zeiss scope since a few days and it’s a difference of night and day!

I now have to say, after shooting today, that my Tasco 2.5-10×42 is much closer to the VXIII than my Bushnell Banner 4-12×40. This surprised me quite a lot.

The Bushy only focuses on the AO setting, the Tasco and VXIII both have a much better depth of focus.

I’ve tried to tell people for years. If given a choice between high dollars spent on the optics or the gun, Put the money into the optics. You can’t hit what you can’t see.

There’s nothing like quality glass.
