Q:

Here goes nothing….177 Sumatra 2500

Man I’ve been beating my head on a rock literally for flipping months 😆 whether to try one of these or not? Well I finally bit the bullet and called AOA(Airguns of Arizona). Pyramid who I normally deal with said it takes 2-3 months to get one in 🙁 but AOA stocks them so 😀 ….guy told me he might be able to get it out today 😀 😀

I have high hopes it will be a decent Field Target gun and I know it will be a fun plinker…LOVED the .20 I had a couple months ago.

Curious what pellets it is going to like? and what kind of shot count I can squeeze out of it?

Anyone else ever have/shoot one of these in .177?

To get the best accuracy out of the Sumatra you must fill to the pressure you would normally fill to.
Adjust your power over the crony of the pellet that you want to shoot.
then count shots and watch your power. move wheel up and make notes.
(example)
With my Career I fill to 3300psi,start with the power wheel all the way down.
(I set it to shoot crosman 10gr. pellets at 900fps with power wheel all the way down) every 10shots I move it one click up.
Lots of consistant shots that way.
My Career is an old model .177 carbine. 10 shots per clip.
Don’t lube too much. It will mess up your accuarcy.
Specs
warranty term = limited life time

weight= 6lbs

tank capacity =290cc

barrel length = 16″

trigger-pull adjustable= 3lbs.

max velocity= high= 970fps 16.1gr eun jin. adjutable to zero fps.

accuracy= 5/8″ at 50 yards

max/min muzzle energy= 33.65 foot-pounds adjustable to zero foot pounds

max shots on high/low power= 18 shots high power 16gr eun jin 980fps to 810pfs. 70 shots+ at 900fps with 8 grain pellet 40 shots with out moving power wheel(between 980 and 900) After 40 shots move up 1 click per 6 shots. This will keep velocity consistant

threaded barrel: yes

valve lock at 3300psi

over all length 35.5″

What power setting were you using and how fast are they going? I bet that gun can squeeze some serious velocity out of those little pellets. Maybe turning it down will eliminate some of the flyers?

Got in some quick shooting last night with a couple different pellets trying to fine “the one”… these are all unsorted, some lubed with “Napier” pellet lube, some with “Slick50 One Lube”, some not at all.

10 yards:
JSB lites ragged hole no fliers all shots making the hole slightly bigger
Crow Magnums 1/2″ some in the same hole then a 1/2″ flier
Kodiaks 3/8″
Crosman Premiers Heavies “CPH” singe hole with a 1/4″ “flier” every couple shots
CP Hollow Points Single Hole with 1/4″ “flier”
Gamo Hunter –no group pellet skirt was too big to put into clip from front or rear! pushed them in and then one got jammed when I cycled the lever…I could try them single shot just to see how they work?

I still have EunJins, Crosman Wadcutters, RWS Supermag Wadcutter, Gamo pointed, JSB Predators, RWS Superdomes, RWS Super-H-Point and JSB Heavies to try….

I was hoping to see the accuracy I saw with the S16 out of this gun when shooting JSB’s, CPH’s or the Kodiaks but so far the only one even close to that was the CPH’s and those were still having fliers 😕 that S16 is flipping ACCURATE!

SCOPE: I had to put a smaller scope on the gun for the moment as I couldn’t get both scope mounts on the rail…it’s working good for testing though I really like the giant target scopes.

TRIGGER: didn’t try adjusting it yet but I need to as it was moving the gun a little as I squeezed it…it is lighter than the S16 but not by very much.

Love the cycling and quick shooting of the gun and it is a pretty good fit to me right out of the box…would be cool if the clip was like 20 shots 😈 but 6 will do.

Oh yea both clips are metal with a brass liners. Kinda looks like .20 clips with a brass liner? no plastic clips, I liked the plastic one as I could see how many shots I had left.

Hey Sluggo! man that gun was sweet! I hope this gun can do the same? I’m hoping anyway….I remember freaking out when the first couple shots were touching or only a pellet away from each other!!! I can’t see on this one where the barrel is free floated/riding on an o-ring though?

I remember making sure the thread protector thing isn’t tight but what else is there to make it accurate/more accurate?

Did you do anything to the trigger on that one?

Well ripped off a couple quick shots this morning before work and wholly mother is this flipping thing LOUD 😆 😆 It never ceases to amaze me how loud an unshrouded gun is 😆

Clicks from bottom/0 power wheel. All with JSB lites 8.4 grains
+1 no air
+2 no air
+3 no air
+4 409 fps 3.1 fpe
+5 666 fps 8.3 fpe – Black Dot
+6 895 fps 14.9 fpe
+7 959 fps 17.2 fpe
+8 661 fps 8.2 fpe —only 5 fps difference from clicking up and down then back to +5 SWEET!!!

Initial impressions…

Scope rail is WAY too short for me. I could literally only use the rear scope mount on the ZOS 10-40×60(flipping HUGE scope though)… there is another screw in front of the cylinder/magazine that I think will work perfect for another short scope rail piece so I’ll be puting one on there immediately. I’ll also need to do that to shim/droop the scope as it shoots really low right now.

It’s flipping loud in the basement 😆

Looks flipping BAD ASS with the GIANT ZOS 10-40×60 w/sunshade on there 😈 the scope almost comes to the muzzle 😆

Cocking action is really pretty smooth, just like the last one I had.

This trigger is a little better than the last one I had…a little lighter and a little smoother…it will be getting a trigger polish and adjustment shortly though.

Pumping up a 290 CC tank is NOTHING compared to the 490 CC ones!!!!

It’s really light and VERY pointable…I’ll need to try some position shooting to see how stable it is? I’m not sure if I can hold a light gun more stable or a heavy gun? I know my muscles burned like a mo-fo with the Talon w/ 2lbs of lead taped to the muzzle 😯 😆 but she was much steadier 😉 I could also hold the long guns pretty steady and make multiple 50 yard off hand shots hitting a can 8 out of 10 shots.

So far I like it at least as much as the one Sluggo had!…cept for the short scope rail to be fixed shortly.

It is MUCH louder than the full length gun 😆 I LOVE the compactness of the gun though…I’m already pondering how to make the rear stock quickly removable to make it a SUPER short setup that is still covertly back-packable.

Oh yea I ordered a 10x1mm tap to make a muzzle break for this beastie.

Pics and More to come…Jim.

If the S16 was lighter and the cocking wasn’t so stiff, it would be perfect.
That shroud is very effective.

I would love to see a write up on the S16.

Your .25 is calling my name though….must resist.

Man what a wild month!!! The Gladiator was turning into a Charlie Foxtrot with delays then the shipment came in but NO Gladiators “should be in in a couple more weeks!!!) ….so I ordered a S16 thinking man this is gotta be the perfect gun for me…I shot about 250 rounds through it and it just isn’t me, I’m working on a writeup on it now and will post in a couple days…I did up a bulk fill for the S16 with a 110 ci tank and I LOVE it! got a paintball back carrier for it and it is a sweet little setup…

110ci bulk tank = 1,800CC’s at 4,500 psi!!!!!! 😯 regged out to 1,000’ish psi right now(770fps/10.5 fpe) and I might take it up just a little more? I’ll see how the adjustment goes on the Sumatra with this psi? so 290CC’s from the gun + 1,800CC’s from the bulk 😆 gives me right near 2,100CC’s 😯 I think it is entirely possible I’ll get 2,000+ shots at 10.5 fpe 😆 flipping scary…oh yea in the S16 it was shooting +/- 5fps!!!

I sent the Bushnell 4200 back and am waiting on the Nikko’s to come in that are on backorder…that beast is going to be going on here oh yea 😀 supposed to be in next week 😀

I’ve got a TON of different .177 pellets now so I’m REALLY excited to see what it’s “favorite” pellet is going to be? man that S16 is the first gun I shot all kinds of pellets through then got to the Kodiaks and DAMN no shit it shoots one single hole pellet after pellet after pellet!!!! I had to shoot another spot to make sure it was actually shooting in the same place! it shoots a “ragged” hole with JSB lites and 1/4-1″ groups(10 yards rested, not benched) with all other pellets…BY FAR it LOVES the Kodiaks. I have never had another gun this accurate except the AirWolf!

Jim.

The .177 is back on 😆 …only in a Carbine this time, with a 110ci 4,500psi regged to 1,000psi bulk fill hooked up to it 😈 it’ll shoot over 1,000 shots(maybe 2,000) at 10.5 fpe or charged to full power without the bulk tank for higher power shooting.

…I’m posting the Logun S-16S exploits in another post.

Jim.

Well damn it literally was NOTHING…I started thinking about the 500cc ones coming out in March…then…I started looking at the FX Gladiator, read a few posts on it and called AOA about it…they told me to refuse the shipment and they would just put it towards the Gladiator and only charge me the shipping it cost them. No 15% restocking fee, that sold me.

FX shipment is in customs now…I’m trying my best to be patient and keep busy reading and ordering pellets and the new Gamo Squirrel Field Targets with adjustable kill zones 😀

Sorry I can’t give you guys the skinny on the .177 just yet…maybe I’ll try one after the 500cc ones come out?

Oh yea setting the Gladiator up with the Bushnell 4200 8-32×40 Mil-Dot reticle (VERY rare beast) from http://www.straightshooters.com so I’ll be able to compare it to the Nikko 10-50×60 and ZOS’s…sold the Nikko but I did some comparison with it before it left. REALLY curious if the 4200 is brighter and clearer than the Nikko?????

Jim.

I have shot the .177 carbine.
Fun little rifle.

My debate was .25 cal or .22 or .20, then the long or short hummm idunno can i have one of each lol. I should buy six guns lol i could? I really like .20 cal in my sheridan and those babies go supersonic. .22 adds some slap factor wonder how 100yard shoots would be. I prefer the usefulness carbine and looks but extra pwr o man. Funny im only considering a pump alot of work lol start a jane fonda workout.

Hey Sumatra…you’ve been to Pyramid air???? oh man I just mapquested them and they are 203 miles away 😀 they have a storefront??? wholly crap to actually get to touch a gun before buying it would be too much 😆 all the guns I’ve had were only seen on the internet…ohhhhh this could be good and bad.

That Carbine is SOOOOOOO tempting brother and it seriously causes me heartache. I’m torn between the VERY small size of the gun vs. the shot count of the full rifle. The full rifle is a frigging handful ESPECIALLY when I pick up the carbine then pick up the full rifle…I went with the full rifle because I thought you could not refill your gun on a Field Target Circuit…well I read on the Yellow today that guys do it all the time!!!!!! mother f’er!!!! that might just be the excuse I need to order the .177 carbine 😆 it’s 8 inches shorter and 2 lbs lighter 😯 and if I can fingure a way to shroud these beasts and not dork the accuracy that is going to be a VERY good day!

You have a stockpile of Gamo ammo or something?

Going to post some pics in a bit of the rifles side by side to show the different sizes of the guns vs. SS Condor Carbine, Rifle 9mm Rifle.

Jim.

Ive been thinking about ordering sumatra carbine in .22cal but worried about the long bomb shot. Ive even placed them in my cart and played around with pellets to figure out the best deal pyramid lol. Wonder how this gun shoots gamo ammo?
