Q:

Hammer/breech removal instructions without touching barrel.

Sorry about the pictures being small… I wrote this some time ago, uploaded images to the TOG gallery, lost my originals and then the Gallery was lost, then recovered mysteriously and only has these small thumbnals so far.

This is the more complicated way of getting access to the internals of the gun, but allows you to do so without removing the barrel.

Remove the pistol grip – Requires a LONG Hex wrench

Remove the foregrip

Remove the trigger shoe

Remove the Trigger plate cover, hold the gun upside down and be careful you dont drop any springs. Make a note of spring location, but if you forget there is a schematic at the top of the Mods/Tweaks forum.

Remove the one or two set screw’s on the inside of the frame holding in the bottle collar.

Unscrew breech handle and all parts should then just slip right out.

The trigger works for the brech, but not the sear, i just loosen the trigger guard and the hammer will come out after the pressure is off the sear spring.

quote Bodhisdad:

One thing which i did was drill a hole in the trigger mechanism plate to gain access to the second set screw on the tank retainer. This alllows me to keep my trigger on and i only have to loosen the plate to release the pressure on the springs, which allow the hammer to disengauge and slide out. Saves a little time.

Good thinking! So you only have to remove the grip? Sounds better than trying to relocate the set screws…

Can’t you just pull the trigger to release the hammer the rest of the way? I pulled my hammer out last night, but I took it out the barrel end. I pulled the trigger to get the breech block out.

I got the breech handle off last night. The squishy cap slid off easy. While I had it off, I just made up a new one on the lathe out of black delrin. I reused the bottom 1/4″ diameter spacer since the delrin seemed to be a little too soft for that area. Probably need to make a new 1/4″ spacer out of brass later. Maybe even the whole knob? I see the knob would add to the weight of the slide tube, and the hammer might move it differently. Would that make a diff?

While thinking about your idea on removing the ring, I was wondering if one could move the holes so you could remove the ring w/o removing the grip. I think mine had two setscrews from under, but it appears only one of them goes through the ring. It seems like there would be enough meat on the side, but I’m not sure if the parts have to be match-threaded until I get it apart some day.

That’s cool Y nice find and post! I’ve never taken mine apart from that angle but I could see the utility in it.

Jim.

Thanks Y!
A coupla q’s though.

How do you unscrew the breech handle? Mine seems like an inverted squishy cap but I don’t want to yank on it and break it (yet). Is there a socket head down under there, or ?

Can you point me to the schematic you reference? I’ve found a schematic, but it isn’t very close to my new TalonSS. The old one shows an extension spring, and mine has a compression spring for the safety part. Of course, that damn spring fell out when I was taking it apart! I got it back together correctly, but I’m wondering if this is something new, or if I just haven’t found the correct schematic yet.

edit: found the current schematic: http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4

I’m gathering bits and pieces of information since I don’t have the bottle fill adapter yet, although I have the rifle, heh. Should be here next week, I hope!

Jim
