Q:

Getting caught up in numbers?

Hey fellas, brief intro; this is David and im here in the good ‘ol US of A (CO) 8)

I talked a little on the phone with Anthony debating on which gun to get. My dilemna is whether I REALLY need a Condor or a .25 at that. What Id like is the ability to kill “medium” game (ground hogs/skunks) at around 50 yards, Raccoon sized game between 25-35 and sqirrel sized at 75ish.

I have been researching these guns (with bloodshot eyes) for the last 3 weeks and while im extremely tempted to get the Condor or even better the .25 im not sure about a few things that ive read recently.

Heres my concerns:

Total shots– would hate to only have a 15-20 minute session (at best) before i have to refill

Efficency– Ive been hearing that there is alot of wasted gas with the Condor when shooting at high power levels and it seems the Talon SS with a 24″ offers near the power with double the shots.

In addition, whats the point of having the ability of shooting at the available FPS when accuracy and FPE suffers? or combating it with heavier pellets. To me that translates to “nothing but numbers” and a waste of money as your still shooting the .22 @9-1k FPS (per recommendation)… OR does this translate to more shots since your using lower settings?

As for the .25, Anthony was saying it will increase your chance of a quicker kill as opposed to injuring the animal.

Anyhow set me straight guys and let me know what you recommend.

A couple of places will do that for you. One is Pyramid Airguns and the other is Airhog. Both will take the time to find out what you need to know.

Thanks again Adam 8)

Well what I’ll do is call suppliers and talk with them about it hopefully they will be honest and the guy that actually packs the gun grabs the one with a new valve. I don’t know if Tony knows of a honest supplier or one that stocks these new ones but ill see what i can come up with.

DH: I can imagine the size and weight of those. Ive hunted a few in my time (bow and rifle) and I know them guys are very heavy. Very dense animals. The fact that you killed them using what you did from that far still blows my mind.

Thanks again fellas. Hopefully this thread can shed some light on new potential buyers as well.

nemesis… just pray to GOD, that you get one with one of the new valves, instead of one with the old ones. Those were a pain in the ass

😀 LMAO!!!

Absolutely correct….Get it from a dealer that can assure you that it is a new version with current valve!

You won’t be disappointed. It’s unfortunate that the pictures don’t really give one the sense of how big those pigs really are. Took two of us to heft the second (reddish brown) one into my PU truck. I hefted the black one myself and it was a lot more work than throwin’ my girlfriend around.

Ok fellas, well I thank you all for the direction and links, I have made my decision…Im getting the Condor in .25. I figure hell, i can always make it a Talon in the future if I choose, Ill have the .22 barrel for…well maybe whacking the sh!t outta my game if the .25 doesn’t quite kill him 😛 Honestly this gun is so dynamic and I can switch between any combo within minutes.

The deal breaker was really the links that Dirty posted on the valve and what the gun is capable of. That and the affirmation all of you guy’s gave me…I sure am glad I found this site. Thanks again fellas !

…now where the hell is Tony (ha)

Getting a .22 and putting a .25 barrel in it wont void your warranty so long as you have a .22 cal barrel to put back if you should need to send it back to AF.

Nemesis27,

In the Condor section go to page 2 “New Condor valve” and scroll down a bit. That’ll help you make up your mind.

Well that definaltey put things into perspective 😆

Nemesis, whatever you get, shoot it until the warranty is over, then modify whatever you want. Still, Condor in .22 is a 60 fpe gun: more than you need for your application. As far as wild pigs go, put one 28.5gr. EunJin in between an eye and an ear, and it will drop right there; you said within 50 yards? Yes, definitely.
The warranty on my condor is over, so I am ready for a .25 conversion now. Waited for a year

Thanks for the input, a year…I would not have the will power 😛 Actually when i get this sorted out I will have Tony order the gun and build how I like it straight away. I could care less about the warranty as if anything goes wrong im sure Tony can fix it (crosses fingers) or I may be savvy enough at that point to do it myself.

Here is a little that .25 Condor is capable of

Heavy Bolt VS. Light Bolt

quote Shadoh:

The ranges you are talking about I would probably go with the Condor. You have the longer barrel and can get the heavier pellets out there farther at higher speeds.

The .25 lets you retain more of your power at the longer distances and the heavier pellets are less susceptible to cross winds.

You should be able to get at least 20 good shots or so with either gun. More if you tune it so your not wasting air with every shot.

Definatly a good point about the .25 and the heavier pellets. Now when you say “either gun” your talking Condor .22/.25 or the Talon with the 24″ in .22? When tuning it I take it your talking about dialing down the power, now would that then affect me killing at those distances?

I have a feeling im asking for more than the gun can offer in the sense of killing power and distance vs amount of shots between a refill. I suppose theres a compromise between the 2 (i want my cake and to eat it too damnit) 😛

Adam (awesome sig BTW lol) I hear what your saying, I suppose a Condor is what I should be looking at as I can always go Talon SS with it, problem is what I was saying in the OP about killing at my ranges.

Attention Nemisis,

Dont get frustrated you can have it all. Get a Talon or Condor. Get the barrel length you want and the bottle you want. Mix and match. You are not locked into any length or valve. Pick one and then go for it.

I have a Talon SS and will have a 16″ barrel put on…Hint Hint Tony. It will give me more power but keep the SS size and with 4″ frame extender it will still be quiet. For punishing power a .25 barrel in 24″ is always an option.

The best is decide what are you going to to with it 95% of the time and pick the configuration that suit it best. Then change as the condition change.

Have fun
