Friendliest Air Gun State?
Anyone knows what the friendliest state is as far as air rifle hunting goes?
In TX, for instance, you can’t even hunt a squirrel, unless it’s a ground squirrel, but you can freely kill hogs and coyotes with an air gun. Sometimes air gun laws don’t make sense.

This is a interesting question…
When one refers to a Jurisdiction as being AG friendly are you asking whether you can hunt with them or how they are otherwise regulated under the law…
Here is the Devil folks
Starting in the late 90s a growing number of States have modified their definitions of what a “firearm” is under Code to include weapons that propel a projectile by means of compressed gas or air. The reasoning behind these definition changes were to give LE & the Courts greater latitude in prosecution of Urban Utes’ who were beginning to make a practice of committing their robberies with “air guns” but in most cases the offending toy was actually an air soft.
Anyways between the dipshit media and glory hound Chiefs of Police & County Sheriffs a number of State legislatures quietly revised the definitions to include even a Red Ryder as a “firearm”.
OK…How does the effect folks?
well 1st off depending on the Statutory wording those prohibited under State Code from possessing a “firearm” could face prosecution for Constructive Possession if their son had a Red Ryder…let that sink in for a moment and yes this shit does happen.
then there are other factors…
for example if a Red Ryder is a “firearm” it is subject to the same carry, use & transport regulations as a .300 Weatherby Magnum. Can you discharge a “Firearm” in your backyard? An example of this occurred a few years back in Northern MN when the State Police with a local Chief of Police opened up an undercover Pawn Shop in a small rural community. After about two years time the did a very public round up of the areas worst which included close to a dozen young men & boys who had carried their uncased AGs into this sting store. The crime? Brandishing a Firearm in Public! Thankfully the District Judge tossed all those idiot cases out of Court but sadly the charges were legally sound.
One really needs to take a very close look at the definitions on this crap…
Now my good friend Adam…
Here are a few Cali laws you may not be aware of:
Incorporates BB guns under the “imitation firearm” definition (PC § 12550).
• Provides that any person who alters an imitation firearm to make it appear more like a
real firearm is guilty of a misdemeanor. This provision does not apply to
manufacturers, importers, or distributors of imitation firearms, or to the lawful use of
imitation firearms in theatrical productions (PC § 12553).
• Requires any imitation firearm manufactured after July 1, 2005 to have, at the time of
offer for sale in this state, a conspicuous advisory in writing as part of the packaging,
stating that the product may be mistaken for a real firearm by law enforcement
officers or others; that altering the coloration or markings required by law to make the
product look more like a real firearm is dangerous and possibly illegal; and that
brandishing or displaying the product in public may be a crime. Any manufacturer,
importer, or distributor that fails to comply with the advisory requirement shall be
liable for a civil action of not more than $1,000 for the first action, $5,000 for the
section action, and $10,000 for the third and each subsequent action (PC § 12554).
• Provides that with specified exceptions, any person who purchases, sells,
manufactures, ships, transports, distributes, or receives by mail order or in any other
manner an imitation firearm shall be liable for a civil action of not more than $10,000
for each violation. For these purposes, “imitation firearm” does not include:
C Historically significant nonfiring collector’s replicas offered with a wall
plaque or presentation case;
C BB devices; or
C Devices where the entire exterior surface of the device is white, bright
red, bright orange, bright yellow, bright green, bright blue, bright pink,
or bright purple, either singly or as the predominant color in combination
with other colors in any pattern, as provided by federal regulations
governing imitation firearms, or transparent or translucent as provided
by federal regulations governing imitation firearms (PC § 12555).
• Provides that with specified exceptions, any person who openly displays or exposes
an imitation firearm (including a BB device) in a public place is guilty of an
infraction for a first or second offense and a misdemeanor for a third or subsequent
offense (PC § 12556).
Yes AF guns are not “BB guns” in our eyes but that will not matter a bit as they certainly will fall inside legeslative intent in so far as the Court is concerned. There is quite a bit of law enforcement wiggle room in these laws, for example a nasty County DA might make a case that your AR grip frame because it incorporates a Firearm component is designed to make that particular “BB Gun” appear to be a “firearm”
I wont even get into the “public display” lingo…
Remember folks its this AG definition idiocy that fueled the prohibition in Michigan on the Gamo Whisper and the Crosman Marauder.
you cant own an air pistol in NJ without a permit 😯
thats the gayest law i have heard of
Must have a fire arms ID card to purchase air rifle and a special permit. Forget an air pistol , same as buying a .357 mag. (must have fire arms ID card and pistol permit per pistol) no hunting with them period. Thats where private land comes in handy!
Silencers are illegal. But mind you airguns with shrouds are sold with no problem. As full auto bb guns I havent a clue. They do have full auto airsoft and paintball guns. I do know blow guns and black jacks are illegal 😆
Silencers for firearms are illegal under CA law, but airguns are not firearms under CA law.
Airguns are legal for small game in Tn. The varmint types are no season, no limit. There isn’t a cal or fps restriction posted on the regs. We can even hunt on Sunday… I used to live in NC and you couldn’t hunt on Sunday. I used to go down to the river on Sundays and shoot sycamore balls… ideal sized targets, explode nicely when hit. One afternoon I was engaged in ball bustin’ and heard a vehicle slow as it went by… it turned around a couple of hundred yards past me and came back very slowly. I heard the car pull off the road and the door open… he eased it shut and crept up behind me. I kept a steady pace with my .177 break barrel, working on the sycamore balls. After just a minute came this firm voice ” WHAT ARE YOU SHOOTING AT ?”. “Those little target balls” I said, and dusted another… “Wanna give it a try?”. “IS THAT AN AIR RIFLE?” “Yep, it’s German made, one of my favorites.” I asked again if he’d like to try it and he declined, though I got the impression he’d really have liked to…. what he’d have most liked to do would have been to catch me shooting at a squirrel, seize my rifle, car, and lots of money. He kept watching, I kept shooting, and finally he told me to have a nice day, got back in his truck and left. Tennessee is a good airgun state.
ny just passed airgun hunting on small game only and the gun has to shoot 800 fps or faster(dont know why as an 800 fps 7.9 gr cp has less power than a 600 fps .25 grain 9 ring)
🙄
but rules are same as for firearm except the fps rule
not turkey as in ny u have to use scatter guns
AKULA-
My sentiments exactly

I don’t know if blow guns are illegal in our country, but for me, I used it in a right way and that’s not illegal for me. 🙂
Akula,
Mine shoots miesterkuglen at around 490fps. And for a springer pistol that is pretty good. It is for paper punching and plinking. I have taken out rats with it at 15yds. Pistol suck for hunting anyways. Give me a rifle anyday.
Adam; I’ve the same RWS recoiless pistol. It’s an accurate little thing but it has a hard time doing anything more than wounding mice. A Talon SS in .22 does more than wound the mice, it dismembers them. I retired the RWS for to ensure a bloody kill. AKULA
that crow i shot… ya, the one by itself. it was depredating upon my shooting area.
ive tried to get tpwd to become more airgun accepting but it prolly wont work for a LONG time, they still see them as walmart specials
btw do any of you texans have land to shoot on?
Well I just checked it again and it says that squirrels are game animals in TX. Firearms only. What a crap. Of course we all do just the opposite.
Big difference.
I really like the way YN did his 2240 with the black and green. Has that tactical look as well.
I love the 2240 and with a 20 cal barrel and breech you will really have a keeper. I have showed this before but I am going to show it again.
Here is my 2240 before duracoat
And here is it after Duracoat
What a difference. I sanded the mold seam off of the handle and YN sprayed it for me. I am really happy with the way it came out even if he did have his big gay way with it. 😯

I would say Virginia but Tenn can hunt on Sunday and we can’t. But we can kill whatever with an air gun. Only caliber restrictions I can find are on deer and bear.
