Q:

Frame extension…what is it?

What exactly is a frame extension? Are they custom made items? I’ve read where a Talon SS owner added a frame extension? I’m assuming he had a barrel longer than 12 inches.

If i were to build a very simple frame extender, like the one in the pictures by yellow ninja, would it make my condor quiet enough to be used at FULL POWER, in an urban area? just the 1″ OD tube, sticking 6 or 7 inches infront of the barrel, and an end cap.
Would it be enough?, how much would you guys say an extender lowers the sound, to half? more than half?

You know, i chose this thing (the condor) over the TalonSS ONLY because i wanted devastating power, and i do get it!, but whats the point if i can never use it?????
i only get to shoot my condor at full power when i get a chance to go to the field!. So im anxious to find a way to make it suitable for “urban use” at full power.

Am I right in assuming they only extend out to the muzzle and not significantly beyond? Do barrel bushings hold them concentrically in place? I suppose there’s enough room between the barrel and extender to add baffles and such.

Hello,

Unless you got the idea from YN’s pictures here’s another one showing how the internals can be. This is for standard Talon (18″ barrel) where the frame is little shorter than in SS.

In this version the extender is cocentricly aligned from 2 points to barrel. From the aligner at the end of the muzzle and from frame-connection point. The frame-connection is only for axial-locking. There is a cap between extender and frame where you see O-ring. You want to align only to one or other. I prefer barrel since the that way I am closer aligned to main muzzle bore. You can and should also vent the first barrel-bushning to gain more volume and then even drill couple of holes in to the bottom of gun to vent from there. The diameter of my extender is 33mm outside and 30mm inside. The outer diameter of gun’s frame is 31.5mm.

The one in the picture was 6″ past the end of the barrel and doesnt touch the barrel at all.

Its up to the person making the shroud on how long they are or if they have baffles or use a bushing to keep the barrel centered.

Thanks for the info. Am I right in assuming they only extend out to the muzzle and not significantly beyond? Do barrel bushings hold them concentrically in place? I suppose there’s enough room between the barrel and extender to add baffles and such.

They are basically just tubes sticking out the end of the frame with an end cap. Same as a shroud on other guns but we call them frame extenders because the design of AF guns already incorporates a shroud so these just extend whats already there.

They allow the gun to be made much quieter, they protect barrels that stick out past the frame and some people just like how they look I guess.

You can make a real simple one using 1″ Outside Diameter tubing and just inserting it into the frame and then figuring out how to make a new end cap like this below (A lathe makes it real easy)

I made this one for a .25 Condor to make it quiet (I dont sell them)
