Well Pabs, you got it locked before Raygun could come up with another reason we’re all daft! I don’t suppose he ever considered that the lion’s share of expansion occurs in (and after) the barrel AFTER the slug has started its travel and thus the local heating is not remotely inconsistent with ultimate cooling of the expended charge. Easier to call us liars or fantasists then to noodle it out I suppose…

I too have had 2 examples of dieseling one with wd-40 and a RWS 45 the other with a benjamen marauder 22 pcp and 3 in 1 oil.

wd-40 used to be good alturnative for starting fluid in diesels because propellant used to be propane.
was told propellant has been changed (but havn’t read the back of can lately)

That Rayman is also saying that the Barnes rifles use ‘normal’ pressures, just a lot more air. Now I know they use a lot more air, but the pressures are higher, no?
Anyhow, I’ve stopped posting on the thread. He has his Fanboys with him now. That Stu guy started off saying yes dieseling was possible, but soon changed his tune to definately not possible 🙄

Now wd 40 has got some flamable things in it just read the label, I had a guy at work call me an idiot which I am no doubt, but to prove my point I lit a match and held it in front of the wd 40 can and lit up the room with eyes looking at me like this 😯
It’s an interesting point of discussion. Too bad some folks always want a one size fits all solution to every questions.
For instance: At what pressure does the pellet begin its travel down the bore? Raygun seems to think it’s as soon as expanding gas from the tank starts moving, thus the volume the gas (air) flows into is expanding instantly and constantly which according to Boyles Law means constant cooling. I suppose that would be true if one was shooting a loose fitting felt cleaning pellet but pellets and slugs have varying levels of resistance to being forced down a barrel. Can Raygun blow a pellet down a barrel? How about a tight fitting heavy slug? Has he ever heard of a slug not actually leaving the barrel? What happened to the air behind the stuck slug?
Pellets and especially slugs develope breech presure before they move. That means that the dead air in the system between the tank valve and the back of the slug has to be compressed to a pressure sufficient to get the slug to overcome engraving and friction and start moving. The air getting compressed is getting hot and the air flowing out of the tank is cooling. As far as I have seen, the cooling air from the tank does not intermingle with the air being compressed fast enough to avoid local heating.
I know the difference between smoke and water vapor. I’ve seen and video’d water vapor clouds during a shot. I’ve also noticed some smoke curling out of the breech after the cleaning mentioned above and even pointed it out to Gary as a curious anamoly.
I suspect that when I cleaned the barrel, I got enough oil down the transfer port that the blast of air from the tank was enough to atomize some oil and the local heating was enough to cause some burning. I would have expected any smoke to be blown away but it wasn’t.
BTW, the Barnes guns use “normal” pressures for PCPs. The dieseling I saw was at 3000-3600 psi. I don’t remember exactly but I use 3000-3200psi when on low power and 3400-3600 whe on medium or high power. I rarely use the high setting on the P3 so I expect the dieseling event was at less than 3400psi.
