Q:

Folder of LDC/baffle designs + Poll

I have a folder of what i mentioned above, that i have saved throughout my days at TOG. If any are interested PM me your e-mail and i’ll send it to you.

Edit by TeflonTron:

I have added a Poll to Bodi’s post. Please answer it and treat this thread as a place to discuss the merits of adding a section here for LDCs and Shrouds, etc.

Well, the Forum has spoken. I shall add the Shroud/LDC section in a short while.

I would suggest that the mods-section is split to few separate sub-forums.

for example:
-Internals ; valves, breechs, hammers, trigger, bushnigs, etc.
-Externals; shrouds , ldc’s, grips, butt- mods, scuba adapters etc.
-General; home built guns and rest of mods that doesn’t fit to above

And what ever you decide keep the “sticky”-posts away from those forums. They should go to reference-section and not waste lines in constantly evolving sub-forums. I hate nothing more than 20+ sticky-posts in beginning.

i like the idea, and i have some pics to share!

And the Lord said let there be light–then there was light–and it was good.

I have a lot of LDC stuff to contribute too.
It’s about time we had a seperate “shroud” section.

here is the setup i currently employ in my Rig w/ 12″ barrel. The pvc is 3″L x1/2″ ID if i did it over i’d use smaller bit to do the holes 1/8″ maybe. The electrical taped piece is a urethane spacer 1″x 1/2″thick. I have used a 5/8″ counter sink bit to create a solid place for the PVC to sit in and not be shifting around shot after shot. The PVC slides right over the barrel nicely i wrap it with the thick felt pictured. Then i used a tubing cutter to cut the 1″ copper tubing to length, cut lengthwise with a rotary cutoff wheel. This creates a snug fit as i can spread it open then. It has been my observation one should also drill the front bushing along with venting the frame, via under the foregrip. You can then wrap the barrel between the bushings with a 3-m pad/scotch brite pad this will aid as a little extra muffling. Between the two you can achieve a very quiet setup.

Now here is the shroud i’ve come up with for about $4 or so in tubing $7 for the drum sanding kit. Shroud tubing is 1-1/4″ od by 6″ long and the conecting piece is 1″ od by 3″ long. Still had to put the drum sanding drum inside the tubing to spin the od’s down for a proper fit. used 60grit and worked the grits up to 220 with the connecting piece you’ll want to check it regularly against the id of tube and id of frame . Picture pretty much speaks for themselves. PVC would have been a better fit, the hardware store had these cheaper and it will take a dark coat much easier. Fill the shroud as you would the frame.

I’ll be sending them to a Mod asap. Will include my own design for a shroud extension, any with a drill or press can then make a quality extension of their own.

I search this stuff out but it would be nice if it was all in one place… I know it is nice to just look through the other folders like Optics or Hunting and know that’s 95% of what’s in there.

Jim.

I’ve thought about it and have turned this thread into a Poll for such a thing. I personally think that it will be a good addition to the TAF.

Here’s an idea: how about we use that folder to be the basis of an LDC section here?

Just a thought.

I second that…

I do what i can, when i can for my fellow AF enthusiasts. Sharing the info is what its all about, does no good just sitting in a folder in my documents. I hope it is of some small help, (i’m sure it will be) to any who wish or are looking to make there rig a bit more neighbor frindly. Its good to be home. 😀

Very nice,

thanks Bodi for making that available to everyone.
