Q:

Eractic talon ss

Hi Just bought a SS. Had it “upgraded with a hi flow value and Brass hammer?”. Really beautiful gun but as frustrating as hell.

The rifle is set on the lowest setting (1), apperantly because the brass hammer has sufficient force to open the value fully. The problem is that evry third or fourth shot lands 8 inches below the target with the next one bang on. Read an article that said use lube, read on that said don’t?. The artical on the top hat adjustment is facinating will try that when I get a chance. What else can I check or do? Even better is there anyone in Johannesburg South Africa who can tune the SS. It really is a beaut when It shoots properly and I have nailed quite a few Rabbits at 60+ metres, but a 20 minute stalk followed by dull “fizz” makes me want to join a choir.

thanx

Say Walkon…

Would you go into a little more detail about the “…..silicone on the barrel in the breech area also.”

Secondly, I’ve been unable to locate a silicone gel like the one Gaylord uses on the AF video. What do you guys use? Do you use it in the same manner as Gaylord does?

Thanks 😀

I got mine from a dive shop. It is called divers silicone. I put it on the skinny part of the barrel with a tooth pick through the frame. A little goes a long way.

Heavy hammer and Talon Valve – Low power wheel will give high power.

Heavy hammer and Condor valve – Just like having a condor so you need to dial the wheel higher.

Condor’s on low wheel settings give wildly varying velocities. You should see an increase and velocity and better consistancy if you turn the wheel up like the other guys suggested.

I had the SS and put the Condor hammer in it, when I was using the Talon Valve I set it to lowest wheel setting, when I used the Condor tank I set it to around 4.

Good advice from Anthony. Crank that bad boy up and make sure you put some silicon on the barrel in the breech area also.

Dont think the PW for adjusting power as much as a spring pre load. Once you get a chrono you will see what settings give you consistency.

If you want download softchrono here on this site. It is free and works off your computer and a mic.

Go to the main page and you will find it in its own forum.

Psion,
Welcome to the TAF.
We are glad you are here.

One is too low on your PW with a heavier hammer, you are getting erratic hammer strikes. Crank the powerwheel up to 6-8 and see how she performs.

The best thing you can do right now is by a chronograph to fine tune your PW and tophat.

Good Luck,
Tony
