Discovery arrived…
After a long day of work followed by teaching class, I finally get to open my Crosman Discovery that arrived today. I documented the whole thing via pics so that folks can get an idea of what to expect. I am not downplaying others experience with the gun, but as for me, it’s been positive. I have several high end PCP’s to compare it to so this post is not shrouded in ‘First gun awe’. I went over the gun with a fine tooth comb and found it to be flawless so far….
The box arrived in good condition with no dents or dings save for one flap on the end that the tape had come off of. Perhaps a bit better taping job might be in order especially with some in warmer climates where the goo on the tape might tend to come loose…
I went ahead and opened from the already half open end to find the gun was double boxed. A couple of ‘Factory sealed’ tapes were along the bottom and a sticker stating the caliber.
When I opened this box, I found the gun lined in foam and just in the position shown here. Personally, I would prefer a bit more foam backing, especially at the muzzle end, but it’s certainly better packed than some high end Euro guns I’ve bought.
The stock wasnt too plain and even showed a couple hints of figure throughout it. I was pleased given the pricepoint. I’m thinking a little refinish may be in order to fill in some of the grain a bit on her.
One thing off the bat I would have changed would be to have the endcap threaded where the fill nipple is. It just pushes on and off and I can see this wearing with time perhaps.
A thorough check on the gun showed no flaws, no loose sights, screws, or anything else. Not a scratch, ding, or dent.
Out of being impatient, I used my tank to fill the gun to 2000psi. The gauge read correctly, as per my tank at least and I went out on the porch to fire out a shot… Cocking the gun felt very much like any other Crosman, perhaps a bit stiffer, but not bad at all. The trigger isnt a Rekord, but it’s not bad at all. I have two QB PCP’s and the trigger feels as good or better than either of them. Certainly good enough for field work and perhaps with modification could be a nice trigger.
The gun wasnt as loud as expected. It simply sounded like a 20+fpe unshrouded gun. No louder, no quieter. Given some reports, I was half expecting it to be obscenely loud, but it was no worse off than any other unshrouded gun except it had very little ping to it. In contrast, my QB PCP in .22 is just as loud but with a resounding ping coming from it.
So far I am impressed with my $243 purchase. I topped the gun back off and will check for slow leaks tomorrow. I wont be able to do any ‘real’ shooting with it until the weekend so another report will follow….

Will be looking forward to hear from you on “the good, the bad and the ugly” on this gun 😀
