Q:

Cut away valve

Mornin all.
Av been trying t get a few pics up for weeks now. Just havn’t had the chance.
Anyhoo wifeys gone to London to see a show so av got a full weekend pass 😀

Here we go then.
Av made a few valves in past but come under some crticism for needing a little to much energy to open re’ the hammer spring.
What i done here is kept the stem size/bore (7mm/5.2mm) the same, but made the seat seal only 6mm dia’.
Doesn’t sound much, but its a signifficant reduction by percentage. Im not bright enough to do the math 😳
To compensate for the reduced area of flow past the stem ive reduced the dia by .5mm below the plastic seal.
Also if you look at the cutaway section, i have undercut under the seat to 8mm and taperd it down to the stem ports.
I could of told the machine to make it parralell. But thinking back to my old two stroke engine days thaught there may be some pulse effect to be gained.

Just a few pics of a big bore i did recently using same principles.

Anyhoo. Back to the grindstone.
Later, Sean.

😉 😀

Wey hey 😀
Always nice to hear from one of the old guard.

As Always, Looking good there Sean! 😉

Knife

Im sure you understand the many variables re hammer weight, spring strength, preload etc so i shant bother tell you how to suck eggs.
But the first complete one of these was put on a standard UK gun (12″ barrel, 12fltlb) with standard sring but with a heavier hammer and guy crono’d it at 42.
With a heavy hammer and the spring i supply with the valve another, a chap saw 61 18″.22 barrel. That was with the tophat set to 2.5mm travel.
I dont shoot because im to lazy. So i have to rely on others to do the leg work and fine tuning n testing but on the whole folk seem quite happy with them.
Regards, Sean.

Sean, what kind of FPE are you getting out of your valves?
