Cheap CNC ….Will it work ?
Dogwood,s and Yellow Ninja,s conversions made me get all the parts i had and start again on converting my machine. Getting rid of the crap nuts and screws was the first thing, replaced with ACME 16MM X 5 screws.
Well this is the way im going , i dont have enough room to have motors sticking out so im having to go the belt drive route. Now this int cheap belts , pulleys and angular contact bearings add up quickly so ive gone with ACME screws to cut the cost. The ACME screws will also allow me to maintain manual control , despite everthing ive read that says you wont use it arfter the conversion. Ballscrews cost just too much at the moment but i will use ballscrews for the Z axis for the low friction.
Acental anti backlash nut as on Figgnoggle’s web page
For my control and motors ive gone for the Hobby CNC board which i soldered together about 2 years ago , which run 200 oz motors. These motors will run the machine but not at startling speeds 😕 but the pulleys should give me all the torque i need to cut alloy . Im going for the HOSS machine route for the Z axis running a 370 oz motor .
Remember the rules …..this will take along time / im not responsable ect… ect…

Must stop reading….Must fight urge to go CNC…..Ahhhhhh!
If I could spare the down time on my mill I would be elbow deep in CNC bits. I let YN do all the dirty work and he will have to hold my hand when I choose to convert.
The best part is once you guys are all done. We can place orders for our mounting kits 😛
