Q:

Changing barrel in Talon SS

I checked the video regarding changing the barrel in a Talon. I need to change the front bushing on mine. Somewhere possibly on the Talon Site that is down, that there is mention of some sort of screw involving the power wheel in volved when changing the barrel. ON the Gaylord Video no such screw on the power wheel is involved. BTW I just got mine about one month ago new and I think there are two line up screws and one barrel screw judging by the new bushings I purchased. It is stock so far. Sometimes when changes are made in design it is confusing when reading the various posts. Thanks

You don’t have to remove power wheel to change the barrel ,but if you want to do a complete clean & lube be very careful of that little bast#$$@ I mean screw, its tiny, and easily strips the power wheel, if not aligned properly upon re-assemble. I’m thinkin ,thats the next thing to go ,on my rifles. It never really changes anything but preload on the hammer spring. I have Tony’s hammer in my Condor ,and it works great! He recomended putting stock Condor hammer in my SS,and it too works great. In other words, I haven’t found a real need for a roller wheel pre-load, with the basic parts altered. At this stage ,it’s “set and forget” I’ll need to make a spacer to fill the void behind the spring. Maybe a few lengths, depending on hammer wt./valve size. good luck ,tz

Maybe I screwed up, I don’t know. Still shoots the same and power wheel works like always, but I took my barrel out the other day to install some baffling in the shroud and did not remove the power wheel screw. Barrel fell out easily and went back in easily.

I did prior to removing the bushing screws, dialed the power wheel all the way down to whatever the lowest setting would be (0 or 1). Is there some need that I should have removed the power wheel screw if I take it apart in the future?

Sounds like the lead in for a bad joke :-). The screw you’re asking about is the little indicator on the power wheel that tells you where it’s set. It’s a small (5/64?) allen screw, just be careful, it strips easy. Later.
