may be I need one of each! 😀

Yes, a carbine is basically just a short rifle.

Every time I see short and compact Condors I wonder whether me going for a 24″ barrel in .25 was a bad idea or not.

I appreciate my condor’s new carbine setup. It’s really compact in my hard case too.

It came from the word Carabin, which referred to a shortened musket carried by light cavalry. In more modern times, a short and light rifle for cavalry. Now usually applied to small autoloading rifles.

The word carabiner originally referred to the hook used by cavalry soldiers to secure the rifle.

A short barreled, light rifle. When Carbine Williams design the M-1 Carbine, or short officers rifle. It was an adaptation of the 30-6 M-1 Grand Battle Rifle into a smaller lighter package for officers to carry in combat. It was chambered in the .30 Carbine round. The name stuck. It now refers to any short barreled (18″ or shorter) rifle. Many times a shorter version of a full size rifle. The SS and Talon would be Carbine versions of the Condor.

I believe it is a rifle with a 17in barrel or shorter. ❓ In other words, those huge honkin’ condors don’t qualify as a carbine. 😀
