Q:

Can the scope rail be removed/replaced/modified?

Just wondering. My only grip with airguns is the limiting factor of the grooved receiver system for scope mounting. There is so much more available for the 1913 Picatinny system.

Has anyone explored a mod for replacing the top rail with another mounting platform? Is it even possible?

Just buy a rail and screw it on top of the scope rail. It has done before. I believe BenP from the deceased TOG did that.

Liberty; We all have the same question; Why the hell sell a gun that is not standard to what we expect from other weapons. What we deal with is the fact that .22 cal weapons have an 11mm, dovetail 3/8″, non-standard rail for mounting optics. It’s the way it was and the way it is. It’s just what we live with for the time being.

It is what it is, we don’t like it but until another manufactuter, (besides Ruger), sees that they are errant, we will suffer the supidity of the manufacturers.

Then again, have you considered the fact that air gunners are not subject to current laws that powder burners are subject too? There are trade offs.

Enjoy what we have and adapt. AKULA

When I was thinking about making my SS into a bullpup I considered removing the top rail and replacing it with a tri rail (using the dovetail thats machined along the top of the full length of the frame). The tri rail would be stronger than whats on there currently and can be drilled and tapped for a regular weaver rail.

I dont have a mill so I abandoned the idea of a bullpup…. But then a buddy got one 😈

Yeah. The weaver mounts are similar to the picatinny. So at least it’s doable. Thanks,

I have a dovetail to weaver adaptor on my gun. It’s as long as the scope rail of the condor. I know it’s not any kind of real modification, but it does convert it to a weaver mount. Is that the kind of thing you’re thinking of?

Removing the top rail would weaken the frame to the point you might have trouble machining mounts for the picatinny rail.

I would think though, if you could get away with it the result would be a stiffer frame.

Thats just my 0.02, lets see what others think.
