Q:

Brownells crowning tools

Hi,

Anyone experience with the Brownells crowning tools ? Might order a crowning tool from Brownells (crowning tool and muzzle pilots in .177 en .22) but first need to know if it gives a good and accurate crown).

Do I need different muzzle pilots for .22 airgun and .22 rimfire ?

Rgds, Yoeri.

They will second best to a lathe cut crown by a skilled operator.
Beauty of teh lathe is any crown design you wish for can be had as easily as the next.
I would spend your money on a) pellets, b) anothergun c) more pellets
d) an air compressor

Yes, they will make a perfect crown. JFK

Yes, I have a lathe so turning of the barrel and polishing the crown in no prob.

Just want to know if the Brownells tools will make a nice crown because the tools are not cheap and they have to be send to Belgium.

Thanks for the tip °

The degree symbol ° can be typed byholding down the ALT key, and using the keypad, type “0176”.

I have the re-crowning cutter tools from Brownells (90°, 45° and 11°)and they work great. Just make sure you get the proper pilot guide for .22 airguns. I also have a metal lathe and after using the Brownell tools, I polish the crown with 2000-5000 grit paper and oil for a mirror like finish. The Brownell tools, on their own, do a fantastic job if you take your time. I also bought the pilot guides for my .308, .357, .40 cal and 9mm which made the purchase worth my while.

Welcome to the forum!

If Brownells offers them you can be assured theey are quality stuff.
BUT a lathe is the #1 method to crown and prep barrels.
Do you have access to a lathe? This may be the project to get you started with one….. would be enough of an excuse for me 🙂
Walter….

I saw a mention of those crowing tools on the yellow forum and their use. I hear they are expensive but work well.
