Q:

Brightest tactical light less than $50?

I’m looking for a flashlight that can be mounted in 1 inch rings. Ability to add pressure switch would be nice.

Which brand and model offers the brightest and most even light output. Battery time doesn’t matter so much.

I just picked up a 9P on ebay with an extra HO-9 320 lumens lamp, 8 RCR123s and a recharger plus sheath for $90 shipped.

What kind of lamping range should this give me?

Yellow Ninja, after polling some guys at my job and many times testing both lamps it seems that the CREE is brighter than the standard bulb. The first few times it was a 2 to 2 lock and after more test the CREE came out the winner at 3 to 1. The test was done with 4 guys that has never seen the 6P or the CREE. One comment was that the LED was a better light pattern.

Photo, My CREE is supposed to be 150 lumen’s too, theres no way its that much, but its certainly noticably brighter than the stock P60 bulb.

You using it with a filter? the p60 beats the LED easily when filtered.

My eyes are not so good at night. I will bring the light in to work tonight and let some younger eyes be the judge, and I’ll post the results. When I first tested them both it seemed the the standard bulb casted more of a shadow off things in my backyard and the beem was more centered 😕 .

I was referring to getting a true 250 lumens from the eBay lamp. Would be awesome though.

Is it possible to mod or splice a single pressure switch to power two items? Such and both laser and flashlight.

I’ve got the CREE LED. I don’t think its overrated. Its like a spotlight.

I went with the 6P. Great little light setup and the standard lamp assembly is brighter then the LED, but the LED lamp will run longer.

For those with experience… How would the SureFire 9P with the P91 high output bulb compare to the same flashlight with an ebay 250 lumen CREE LED? I would imagine they are way over-rated.

The Streamlight TL-3 also looks promising, but I dont want to shim the mounts.

The scorpion is about the same in brightness as the Surefire 6 volt.

You’d have to shim it to make it fit tightly in 1″ rings.

😯 That’s a whole lot of technical information there to follow dnc. Great to consider none the less. Candlepower isn’t really what I’m lookin’ for. I want ILLUMINANCE!!! 😀 I’ve also been looking at the 9P. I have a AA Mini-Mag here I’ve been thinking about putting a higher lumenescent bulb in… but I don’t know if that’s even possible.

6500 candlepower is about 2% of the power of the average spotlight. There is a way, but its complicated 🙁

Thanks guys…

Mike, that Scorpion says 6500 candlepower. I don’t know if there is a relevance to lumens but what kind of lumens are we talking about here. Does it fit in 1 inch rings?

My Cree led post from the super effective flashlight setup post..

Its REALLY bright, and has great throw. I’ll grab some video of it in action in my backyard tonight. I’ve got about 100 yards to play around with, so hopefully you can see if this light suits your needs.

This is the one I bought:
