Q:

Any shot strings w/ Kodiaks??

Any of you guys have a string with Kodiaks. Just wondering how my 18″ barrel and Blodnob valve compare?

Thanks WalkonKing. How many shots at what power setting are you using and where are you at when you go to refill? What about FPS????

Does anyone here use the crosman premiers in .22 cal.? I am thinking at 14 and a half, one could dial the power wheel down a bit and still get 900-1000 FPS. I’d like to get the most shots AND the most consistency from my fills since I will be filling from a hand pump. Please give me your advice/opinions as I am a newbie at PCP’s. Thanks in advance.

I use CP’s in .22 and they are very accurate out of my gun. I use a 16″ barrel but a standard 18″ barrel is a good choice.

Mike, thats another reason i don’t want to go to a 24″ barrel. The faster you get the rig the less pellet options you have. I posted wondering how the valve compared to a Condor’s in fpe’s. The nice thing is i can always put in a restrictor to slow things down and conserve air. The Kodiaks are stable at 1000fps and a little over, i’m there for 8 shots or so. Then it drops below 1000fps. I need to turn the tophat in some to improve on consistency which i suspect will drop the upper end velocity down some, probably 20fps or so. It will be worth it for more consistent shots, i’ve got a pretty big shot spread as of now.

Dono,, pooping pellets at near 1000 and over gets the pellet a bit unstable/transonic/supersonic. I’m hitting ~1000 with a shorty set up and it seems a bit too fast for what I’m looking for, so try to dial it back. Course one can just drop in a heavier pellet but the pellet choices get slim.

Good numbers, if i had a AF valve in i’d expect a 60fps increse from 18″ to 24″ barrel. Almost want a 24″ just to see what kind of numbers i’d get, i’d expect to break 1100fps, not that you’d want to. That would boost my numbers some, but i just don’t want a rig thats that long. My spread is about the same as yours, the big valves are a little less consistent, but i’ll live with that for the extra velocity.

Yeah Bodhisdad 24″ 266 Condor. My chrony will read a little higher due to my area/altitude I have heard that chronys will do that and I’m really close to sea level.

What valve do you have in yours Photo?

Anthony at TalonTunes would be the guy who knows.

I’m getting 1000+fps with a 18″ barrel and Sean’s valve. Might have to make that leap to .25 and see what happens. Would definately only go with a 18″ barrel again.

Bodhisdad, I think youve read about my exploits with the 24″ barrel in my Condor but just in case:

I would fill to 2900ish, and get a good 40 shots with kodiaks at 965fps and the tank would be down to 1900ish when I was done. That was tophat at .090″ and a .062″ rubber shim.

Without the shim I would average 1040 or so, but only get around 25 shots with the same fill pressure.

Gun parts: New condor valve, stock. Rubber shim behind tophat. Lightweight striker that AF recommended with the new valve, I think it was 19gm. Stock hammer at 49gm. Stock spring. PW at 8-10 depending on outside temp. I think I was overcoming the stiffness of the rubber washer when it was cold outside.

If I used my 30gm striker, the valve was uncontrollable using the PW adjuster and velocity was always supersonic and very inconsistent.

As you know I never liked adjusting the tophat, but when I converted to .25 cal I had to. In .22 cal my setup was working very well.

24″ .22 barrel, Blodnob valve, avg. 935 fps for 30 shots. 3K fill, 2100 psi aft. 30 shots. That was using the middle size insert, stock hammer spring, and 75 gram hammer. For comparison, EJ’s avg. 871 fps with the same parameters.

Did you know that Sean has come up with an upgrade for his valve, primarily for the guys using the longer barrels? I sent him mine, I’m still waiting to get it back :-(. Seems his life and his day job is getting in the way of my hobby ;-). Sorry, Sean, I couldn’t resist. Anyway, this may be the final push I need to invest in a .25 (or larger) barrel. Later.

Dave

When I chronied my gun with the Kodiaks I was getting 855fps to start with and then down like we always see.

16″ barrel, stock tuned valve
