Q:

Any regrets on buying Condor instead of Talon?

I have been lurking here for the past couple of months while trying to decide on my next air rifle. I currently have a .17 caliber RWS Diana that has lost its umph, and I never shot it well anyway. I need a rifle for general pest duty under 50 yards (Squirrels, rabbits, starlings, possums, skunks, and raccoons). As of now, I am considering either a Condor or Talon SS in .22. I am not worried about having to fill the condor more often than the talon as I am not going to be using this for extended shooting sessions, and I am going to buy a SCUBA tank. My concerns are the following:

1) How quiet can I make the Condor compared to the Talon SS? I have all the tools I need including a lathe to make a LDC.
2) Is the Condor overkill for the game that I am dispatching? I worry about pass through on red squirrels and birds.
3) Are the Talons more accurate than the Condors due to barrel length? It seems to me that the pellet will be in the 24″ barrel for a loooooong time vs. a 12″ barrel on the Talon.
4) How much adjustment will the power wheel give me on the Condor? Can I get down to 700 FPS or so?
5) How long is the Condor with an LDC?

Thanks for the help. I am pretty well set on either one of these rifles. I just don’t want to have to buy a second tank and barrel because I made the wrong choice.

How much is one of Tony’s AAA condors?

And they’re GREAT to deal with! I love my 88cf carbon fiber tank. Now I’m awaiting delivery of a Tony .25 to compliment my .22 SS. My powder-burners don’t recognize me anymore . . .

If you are going to get an air tank for filling, look into something 4500psi instead of basic 3000psi scuba. Here is one possibility.

for 250 bucks assuming your local place can fill full pressure, even the 44cf tank will give more full fills than an 80cf 3000psi scuba tank and weighs less than 10 pounds vs 30lb for an 80cf al tank.

Checking the airfill calculator on Airhog:
Filling to 2800psi, refilling at 2000psi

80cf tank filled 3000psi (scuba) yields 7 full fills
44cf tank filled 4500psi (fiberglass or carbon) yields 21 fills

Food for thought

How do you order from them? Can’t find and order form thing on their website. Or am I blind? 😳

THE OLD FASHIONED WAY!!!LOL. Pick up the phone during business hours and talk to a real person. 😀 😀 😀

Is there a standard assortment of pellets that you should buy with a new rifle? I keep hearing about JSB’s, Eun Jin’s, and Kodiak’s, but there are several types/weights of each listed on Pyramydair. Where do you start?

Those are all great and time proven to provide excellent results in almost all guns, also Crossman Premier (boxed, not canned). Bottom line is finding a good quality pellet that shoots well in YOUR gun and is suitable for your purpose; ie a tin can shooter doesn’t need EJ’s.

Here is a link for a great “sampler”, try a bunch of different kinds and find what you like without spending a ton of money:

Thanks for all of the help! I think that I am going to get the Talon in .22, and make the LDC. I will eventually get a Condor as well, but that is going to have to be in .25. Going this route will save me enough to buy a SCUBA tank right now, and give me as much power and range as I really need.

WalkonKing – how can I get one of those?

LOL Wok. You have a knack for picking the pertinent parts out of a statement, and twisting it.
You are right, I could be happier. Send me one of those for my birthday (its this month).

I said “send”, not “sell”. 😛

You might need to make a trip to your local hardware stores plumbing section. I think there is a limit to how short you can go though. You can’t just stop the air in a 3 inch long shroud, and have it be 2 ft wide. You would need the air to flow all around inside the shroud, which in a normal shroud, is basically in a straight line. When you move to a big fat shroud you are gonna need the air to diffuse sideways, which would probably be much harder and time consuming to make. I don’t know if any of that is true, it’s just what I think the problem with a short, fat shroud is.

No regrets in the Condor vs Talon SS stakes for me. I have a rifle that covers the 30fpe region so I wanted something with more power, hence the Condor. My only regret is that I disappointed with the potential length if I were to add a shroud, and the noise if I don’t. I knew what I was letting myself in for though as I had a Condor in the UK, so I was aware of the noise issue. If I could get someone to make me a short and very stubby can then I would be happy indeed.

Have you talked to Tony to see if he could hook you up?

I have, but he has a limit on the circumference that he can make a shroud, and his standard shrouds, whilst very good by all accounts, make the rifle long and very unattractive to my eyes (as do all full-length shrouds though).

Looks wise, although not in length, I want a shroud that is huge, like this:

IE, something that is much larger than the circumference of the frame.

My condor delivers the hurt 75yrds easy Couldnt be happier!

They are beautiful because they work so well. Form follows function. You know you want one. 😀 🙄 😀
