Q:

Any good lasers?

I’ve been in the market for a laser for my SS. So far I’ve had bad luck from what I have found. I’m looking for a laser that mounts to an 11mm rail only to use in short range shooting and range estimating. A remote switch would be nice, but not necessary. Here’s my experiences:

Leapers LS-168, Nice laser. Sharp bright beam over distance, but it only mounts to a weaver rail. If it came with an 11mm mount it would be a keeper

BSA LS650, Must have got a lemon. Case cracked. Power switch on unit stopped working after 2 cycles (won’t lock on). Battery case cover lock tab broke off the first time I removed it. Very flimsy design. Must use remote cable to hold it in place. Beam width was almost 1” wide at 25’

Crossman 420, have not purchased this one yet. 3/8” (9.25mm) Mount. No remote cable. Will a 3/8” mount work satisfactory on an 11mm rail? From the pic, it looks like if you spread the bracket to make it fit on 11mm rail the laser will be loose in the bracket.

Airforce LS-1, Pricy compared to others. Critical review on PA states it too easy to knock out of aliment. Any truth to this from other owners? I don’t mind paying the price provided the quality is there.

These are the four I’ve looked at, any others worth wild?

It was $329 from optics planet. They have a 5mw for much less. At night the 12mw is a waiste of money but during the day it is easier to see on white & green surfaces, (in direct sunlight)!!!

quote Eradicator:

Bought a beamshot greenbeam 2000. Worked great for 28 days. Called beam shot and emailed numerous times, never a return call or email. Lucky I bought it from Optics Planet; they refunded my money. I replaced it with a Aimshot MT-61167. The Aimshot is built better and a smaller dot. Also, I called Aimshot before I bought and they actually answered the phone, unlike Beamshot. I mounted it to the bottom rail. The nice thing is I sighted in at 100′ both the scope and green laser. I sight between them at any other distances and am dead on when shooting pests. The beam is lower at close range and higher at longer range. I never shoot farther then 35 yds; SO FAR! Great greenbeam laser and great company. Guarenteed for 5 years, beamshot is 1 year, if you can get a hold of them.

How much????????????

I now have the Greenbeam 1000 laser as per APs recommendation. Laser, battery and bracket weights in around 4~5 oz. The worse case scenario is to shine it on a white surface during bright sunlight day. You can see it on white at 50 yards. The dot is ~1/4” The darker the target, the brighter the spot. Very easy to see through the scope beyond 50 yards. At night it’s hella bright. You can see the beam standing at a right angle to it.

I mounted a crosman laser that came with my c-40 pistol onto my condor to see what it would do. At night you can see it on targets 400+ yards, but I cant see it anywhere outside in daylight.

BTW, if you are looking for a laser that will mount to the condor (and I’m sure the talon is the same) with no mods, this one hooks right on.

EDIT: Mine is is the crosman 420 (I looked at pictures – it doesnt have any kind of markings on it).

Too much weight was being added to the rifle and I just don’t care for pressure cords ran all over it.

I don’t believe you’re going to see any red laser at that distance during the day, at all. I havn’t got a green one yet but from what I hear, you should be able to see that, dependant upon what surface you’re pointing it at.

A.P. why is it no longer being used? How visible is it at say 50 yards in BRIGHT sunlight?

I didn’t have to shim the R1 mount. It clamped on tight. It might be a good idea though as I never checked to make sure it mounted concentric to the bore. It’s no longer on the rifle. I don’t know what size the LS1 laser is, but I was told by Beamshot, that all of their lasers fit all of their mounts. They usually come with corresponding shims.

Don’t think about brightness during bright sunlight, good point. The R1 mount states it’s for 12~14mm dovetail. Did you need to shim it for secure fit? I assume the LS-1 laser is also ¾” tube size?

If you plan on using it during the day time I’d recommend a Beamshot Greenbeam 1000. Beamshot has a mount that will fit Condor rails but you’ll have to purchase it separately. It’s Model number R1. I have the R1 mount, but I’d like to find an LS1 mount to trade with as it’s a bit high to fit up under my scope. I don’t know for sure if the LS1 mount is any lower profile.
