Q:

Air Arms 410 ERB and new 410 Side Lever comparison

Cygnusx “finally” returned my Scuba and Talon SS….. he also brought his AA 410 ERB so we could compare it to my new 410E SL.

There are the obvious advertised differences – Side Lever and 20mm as opposed to 16mm shroud, but there are a few sublte differences that I wouldnt have noticed if I didnt have a freind with the old one.

The Shroud is about 1″ shorter on the SL. The guage is different and has color coding to make it a bit easier to read.

There are no longer any bolts holding the receiver to the lower part of the gun and the receiver is a bit higher – to accomodate the larger shroud.

SL is on the Bottom

And the other side

We took video of both guns shooting on several different power settings – we used the graduated markings on the receiver as a guide. Cygnusx is going to post that, as he used his camera and he has High Speed internet.

What I thought is that the new SL is a bit quieter on all power levels and the older ERB has a bit of twang to it on low power. Not sure if the camera will capture the sublte difference in muzzle noise, or the additional action noise on the ERB.

I like my side lever a lot more after using the bolt on his. A lot easier and smoother even though my gun has hardly been shot and his has quite a lot of pellets through it.

Both guns are awesome…. just that mines better (and not ONLY because its MINE) 😛

That would be very cool. I hope he finds someone.

your right walkon king. i talked to hugh tayler 3 days ago. yes i made an international call to him. costly but worth every penny just to here his voice. what a great guy to talk to. btas will be consintrating most of their man power to FX air guns. 🙁 but btas is looking to get a gun smith here in the USA for the btas kit 😀

i would consider a btas modification. double the shots with no power curve. a regulator is fitted and you can fill to 210 bar. also you can keep the power knob. not available in the USA. when it does, i will be in line.

asided frome that, the rifle is perfect. i get 30 shots at 19 ft/sec spread at 29.5fpe.

How much longer is he going to modify those? I hear he will not be offering them much longer

I very much agree with YN here. The S4xx series of guns are awesome out of the box. No need to tweak or modify. If you have a fixed power version, perhaps send it to Pomona for a power modification, but barring that…. those guns are just about as close to perfect out of the box as one can get.

Besides, thats why we have our AF guns… to mod them. As for the S4xx…. treat them like a sore peter and dont F* with them. 8)

The only thing I could do by modding this, is break it….. or failing that, reduce its preformance in some other way.

Have you opened up the shroud and seen whether it can easily be improved in any way?

I’ve looked through the end of the shroud but have not (and wont be) taking it apart.

I can see its baffled and thats enough for me, I dont think any changes to the inside of the shroud would do much if anything and certainly not be worth my time because its a relativly small space to work with and its already baffled.

Sniper,

Not sure what changing the barrel would do, for me as personally speaking…

I wanted a .22 so I bought one so that wouldnt be a reason for me to change barrels.

Accuracy is already there so thats a non issue too…

I guess that would leave power if it were replaced with something longer. 30 fpe is just fine for me and any worthwhile increase in power would be ridiculously long as the barrel in there is 24″ already and an even longer barrel might negativly affect accuracy.

After spending $900 on a gun, I’d rather not spend even more money and start messing with something that was bought for a task and preforms that test perfectly.

I’m very much a subscriber to “if it aint broke….”. My Talon had a crappy trigger, so I modified it. It has an empty shroud so I baffled it. My 410 works fine as is so its not going to get touched failing any maintenance it requires.

Good luck with your modifications, look forward to hearing positive results.

Every gun can have anything tweaked, I believe that trying a new barrel won’t brake the rifle, if accuracy and power are worse I’ll change back to the old barrel and shroud.

I would never carry my gun to a tree bench like the he Yellow Ninja.

Like to keep my guns near the ground, that’s why I got a bipod.

Btw my S410 arrives next week, maybe tuesday/wednesday 😀

I vote fall on it. Maybe out of a tree rest 😆

What about power? Which pellets do they like?
Aren’t you guys thinking in new mods? Come on…
