Q:

9mm 24" barrel setup

got some figures on my new 9mm.its coming out at 730fps with the .357 150 g lead heads, and 820fps with the 79grain lead ball, grouping not bad at 100mtres with the 158g slugs still got to try the 78g ball for grouping though.still room for improvment but early days yet, would like to see it up in the 950fps mark, but good enough for now,

000 ball is giving around 850 and it seats in the breach ok,well the ball i am using are .354 i think the 000 is around .36,but you can open the breach a bit,a top tip from cyg i think on one of his threads, that is only about 5mm in,then they will go in nicely,oh and it is real quite with the pickle i have got too, sounds more like a whoooosh,

Cool thanks. It says high antimony. Is that bad for the barrel?

here’s a link to the OOO shot I used in the 9mm career. It flew very well.

What kind of velocity are you getting out of the 000 ball? Does it fit ok in your barrel?

Eventually. I’ll have to buy some of it (like the LDC) seperately.

nice info marc, thanks,so dnc you are going for the whole setup?

I think you should be able to get upto 300 ft.lbs with a heavy bullet using a 7-8mm valve. Your poppet needn’t be larger than 12mm if you make a 10mm od stem 8mm inner. And I think your hammer spring should still be able to open that .

Regards,

Marc

think hammer is around 150gram,and the spring has a bit of pre tension probably 4/5mm,it is opening the valve ok on a 250bar fill,so i f i go to between 6/7mm on the stem i/d you think that should bring it up,great more power, yaaaaahooo,

What hammer and spring do you use?

In my .266 I use a 6,7 id stem for 180 ft.lbs. Your bore area is about twice that large On a 240 bar fill I need a pretty stiff spring but when it’s not cocked there’s just a little bit of pretension. About 4 to5mm or something.

With a 6,7 bore in your valve you should go over 250 ft.lbs I think.

Keep us updated.

158g slugs seat ok,they are lead alloy mix,yay the ooo .354ball work well, valve stem id is 5mm,i think 6mm id may take up the power more, any ideas on that you big bore guys?hammer and spring are opening the valve nicely

But yeah, I can’t wait to get one of these setups.

I get it now, I think the colder weather is congealing the blood in my head. Its making everything run really slow.

nah. I just figured blodnob would read this post. But, I edited that out for obvious reasons.

Loftus is Blodnob? I really need to pay more attention or take notes or something.

Sweet! Oh, you should try some 000 buckshot. Its really cheap.
